Pakistan has confirmed that Kartarpur Sahib is fully functional after recent monsoon floods. The gurdwara in Punjab province had flooded in August, but the holy Saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the sevadars stayed safe on the first floor. Authorities later evacuated them.

The Kartarpur Corridor, opened in 2019, links Gurdwara Darbar Sahib — Guru Nanak Dev’s final resting place — with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India’s Gurdaspur district. The 4.7-km visa-free corridor allows Indian pilgrims to visit the shrine without a visa.

India suspended the corridor on May 7 after the Pahalgam massacre by Pakistan-backed militants. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has urged the Centre to reopen it. He said, “If you allow a cricket match between India and Pakistan, why ignore Punjabis’ devotion to their shrines?”

Pakistan’s foreign ministry said it has not received any official communication from India. It confirmed that the shrine is fully restored. Pilgrims can now visit safely and comfortably. Restoration work ensures Kartarpur Sahib is ready to welcome devotees and preserve the sanctity of this sacred Sikh site.
