The Union government on Wednesday said that 50,373 public health facilities across states and Union Territories have received certification under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) as of December 31. The quality framework was developed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to improve public healthcare services nationwide.

The Health Ministry described the achievement as a major milestone for India’s public health system. Officials said the certification reflects the government’s commitment to quality, patient safety, and equitable healthcare access, especially for poor and vulnerable populations.

The NQAS programme began in 2015 with only 10 certified facilities, initially covering district hospitals. The framework later expanded to include sub-district hospitals, community health centres, Ayushman Arogya Mandir primary health centres, urban PHCs, and sub-health centres to ensure quality at all levels.

Virtual assessments helped accelerate certifications across the country. Certified facilities rose from 6,506 in December 2023 to 22,786 in December 2024 and further to 50,373 by December 2025. The total includes 48,663 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and 1,710 secondary care facilities. The expansion supports India’s Universal Health Coverage goals under the National Health Policy 2017.

Healthcare Projects in Ladakh received strong attention in New Delhi as LG Kavinder Gupta met Union Health Minister JP Nadda. The meeting highlighted that Healthcare Projects in Ladakh remain a top priority for the UT administration and must move forward quickly to benefit citizens.

During the discussion, LG Gupta thanked the Union Government for its continued support. He updated JP Nadda on the progress of Ladakh’s first Medical College and the proposed Nursing College in Leh. Land allotment, central funding and proposal submissions are already complete. He requested faster administrative approvals so both institutions can start soon.

The upgrade of District Hospital Kargil from 100 to 200 beds also came up. Construction work is moving ahead, but the approval of essential medical posts still needs urgency.

LG Gupta further called for a CGHS wellness centre in Leh to support central employees and pensioners living in Ladakh. He also sought full PMJAY coverage for the ST population due to higher treatment costs in the region.

Other proposals included a dedicated AYUSH Hospital and an AIIMS campus in Leh to improve tertiary care and medical research. JP Nadda welcomed the ideas and assured full cooperation from the Ministry.

The Ayushman Bharat scheme has helped over 45 crore citizens, the National Health Authority (NHA) reported. The Annual Report 2024-25, released in Bhopal, highlighted achievements of PM-JAY and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). Officials said digital health integration and equitable access drive the scheme’s success.

PM-JAY facilitated 9.19 crore hospital admissions, covering treatments worth Rs 1,29,386 crore. Over 30,000 hospitals, both public and private, participate in the scheme. Around 82 per cent of beneficiaries live in rural areas. Authorities issued more than 40.45 crore Ayushman cards, covering 14.69 crore families.

ABDM advanced digital healthcare with 76.5 crore ABHA accounts created, linking 51.3 crore health records. The ABHA App Version 3, in 13 languages, recorded 1.57 crore downloads and 2-3 lakh tokens daily. These features simplify OPD registration and payments for users.

The scheme resolved 96 per cent of grievances through improved call centres and digital systems. Beneficiary satisfaction stands at 95 per cent. Officials noted ABDM’s integration with PM-JAY strengthens care coordination and ensures accountability in India’s healthcare system.
