Late on Sunday, Pune recorded intense rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. The IMD has placed the district under a red alert, warning of extremely heavy rain at isolated places. Similar red alerts have been issued for Solapur and Ahmednagar, raising concerns of flooding and landslides in ghat regions.

In Mumbai, overnight showers caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas. The IMD has issued an orange alert for the financial capital, cautioning of heavy to very heavy rain, strong winds reaching 30–40 km/h, and possible disruption of suburban train services. Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts are also likely to face intense rainfall during this period.

Civic bodies, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), have deployed emergency teams and urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. Residents in flood-prone areas have been asked to take precautions, while fishermen along the Konkan coast have been warned against venturing into the sea.

Experts warn that mid-September rains could be intense, especially in western Maharashtra and coastal belts. Farmers in Pune, Ahmednagar, and Solapur districts have been advised to take measures to protect standing crops from possible damage.

Commuters in Mumbai should brace for traffic delays, while rural communities near rivers and hilly terrain in Pune have been advised to stay alert for rising water levels and possible landslides.

With the IMD forecasting more spells of heavy rain in the coming days, both Pune and Mumbai remain on watch as authorities monitor the evolving monsoon situation.
