The Regional Meteorological Centre has sounded an orange alert across several districts of Uttarakhand as heavy to very heavy rainfall continues to batter the state. Dehradun, Nainital, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Chamoli are among the areas expected to receive intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Authorities have warned that the conditions may trigger flash floods, landslides, and overflowing streams, putting vulnerable villages at high risk.

In the hilly terrains of Rudraprayag and Chamoli, recent cloudburst incidents have already caused damage to homes and infrastructure, leaving families trapped under debris and at least two people missing. Rescue operations are being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), while local administrations have been placed on round-the-clock alert.

Officials have urged residents of flood-prone and landslide-prone regions to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Tourists have also been advised to postpone visits to the Char Dham route and other mountain locations until conditions stabilize. With rivers like the Aglar in Tehri Garhwal swelling dangerously, the government has directed district authorities to ensure evacuation plans are ready. The situation highlights Uttarakhand’s fragile terrain and the recurring challenges of the monsoon season.
