In the recent first ODI match against Australia, Maharaj took 5 wickets for just 33 runs, leading South Africa to a dominant 98-run victory. This stellar performance has pushed him back to the top of the ICC ODI rankings, surpassing Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana and India’s Kuldeep Yadav, who previously held the top two spots.

Initially selected in the team as an all-rounder, Maharaj of Indian descent  has developed a strong grip over spin bowling. Over the past few months, he has consistently proven himself as one of the best bowlers in the ODI format.
