The Congress reacted sharply to the Mahagathbandhan’s heavy defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, with Rahul Gandhi alleging that the contest “was not fair from the beginning.” In a post on X, he thanked voters who supported the alliance but said the outcome was surprising and required a serious internal review. Gandhi added that the Opposition would continue its fight to “protect the Constitution and democracy,” asserting that the INDIA bloc would now strengthen its future strategy.

The NDA swept the elections with 202 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan could secure only 35. The RJD won 23 seats and led in two, while the Congress managed just six—its weakest performance in Bihar in over a decade.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera intensified criticism, claiming early trends showed that “Gyanesh Kumar succeeded against the people of Bihar,” suggesting that the election process was compromised. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the party respects the mandate but will keep fighting forces “misusing institutions.” He called on workers to stay motivated and uphold democratic values.

Senior leaders expressed disappointment as well. Shashi Tharoor termed the results “seriously disappointing” and demanded a detailed examination of organisational gaps. Jairam Ramesh alleged “vote theft on a massive scale” and vowed that the party would escalate its campaign to defend democracy.

Internal dissatisfaction also emerged. Mumtaz Patel criticised centralised decision-making within the party, while former minister Shakeel Ahmad pointed to ticket distribution lapses and said AIMIM outperforming the Congress in several seats was a warning sign.

Counting begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, with early trends expected by 9 a.m.

The state witnessed a record voter turnout of 67.13% during the two-phase elections on November 6 and 11. Around 7.45 crore voters decided the fate of 2,616 candidates across 243 Assembly seats.

The Election Commission has set up 46 counting centres across 38 districts, with strong security. The inner security layer is managed by Central Armed Police Forces, while state police guard the outer perimeter. Every strong room is under 24/7 CCTV surveillance and double-lock safety.

Exit polls predict a sweeping victory for the NDA, led by JD(U) and BJP, which contested 101 seats each. The opposition INDIA bloc, led by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, remains confident of forming the government despite predictions.

Prominent candidates include Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, Samrat Choudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Congress chief Rajesh Kumar.

As counting progresses, all eyes remain on the Bihar Election Results 2025, which will determine if Nitish Kumar continues his long tenure or if the opposition ushers in a new political chapter.

Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar said that vote chori and Donald Trump’s tariffs will dominate the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Patna on September 24.

He spoke to reporters at Patna airport a day earlier. Kumar explained that the party will discuss state, national, and international issues. “At CWC meetings, we pass resolutions after detailed talks. Tomorrow, vote chori and the tariffs imposed by President Trump will be key points,” he said.

This meeting breaks the pattern of holding sessions in Delhi. Top leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Deepa Das Munshi, Sayeed Nasir Hussain, and Meira Kumar, will attend. Kumar rejected BJP’s charge that choosing Patna was a tactic before assembly polls. He reminded them that earlier meetings had also taken place in states like Gujarat.

BJP leaders mocked the Congress decision. Shahnawaz Hussain said the party always fails in Delhi and will meet the same fate in Bihar. Chirag Paswan called it a pressure tactic.

RJD MP Sudhakar Singh disagreed. He said the meeting would send a positive message and strengthen the INDIA bloc in Bihar.

The Patna CWC meet aims to energize party workers and sharpen Congress’s campaign before the assembly elections.

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar declared, “Fighting against vote theft means saving democracy,” ahead of the CWC meeting in Patna. His statement echoed the party’s growing concern over alleged electoral manipulation and its impact on democratic institutions. Kanhaiya Kumar emphasized that a government formed through stolen votes cannot deliver justice, jobs, or stability.

“Fighting against vote theft means saving democracy,” he repeated, stressing that such a fight also protects the Constitution and ensures fair governance. He warned that vote theft leads to paper leaks, rising inflation, and emboldens disruptive elements. His remarks came as Congress leaders gathered at Sadaqat Ashram for the historic CWC meeting.

The meeting aims to address key national issues, including electoral reforms and alliance strategies. Kanhaiya Kumar’s fiery speech added urgency to the party’s agenda. He urged citizens to resist vote fraud and defend democratic values.

Despite heavy rains in Patna, Congress leaders remain focused. The party hopes this meeting will energize its campaign and restore public trust.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi will attend the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Patna on September 24, AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru confirmed on Monday. Their presence highlights Congress’ focus on Bihar ahead of the Assembly polls later this year.

During a press conference, Mr. Allavaru said Congress is fighting “the second war of Independence” in Bihar. He explained that this is why the party chose Patna for the CWC meeting. All other CWC members, including chief ministers of Congress-ruled states, have also been invited.

Mr. Allavaru accused the BJP-led central government of “vote theft” and described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “like a student who does not study hard but uses unfair means to succeed.” He noted that Bihar, where Mr. Gandhi recently completed the 1,300-km ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ has become “the centre of national politics.”

On alliance talks, Mr. Allavaru said seat-sharing discussions within the INDIA bloc are progressing positively. Regarding the chief ministerial candidate for the INDIA bloc, he added that all alliance partners will decide collectively at an appropriate time.

The CWC meeting in Patna aims to finalize strategies and strengthen the party’s coordination in Bihar. Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge’s attendance signals Congress’ commitment to securing a strong position in the state ahead of the upcoming elections.

Speaking to the media, Kaushik claimed that Revanth sold Congress MPs’ votes to the BJP, betraying INDIA bloc candidate Justice Sudarshan Reddy.

He alleged that of the 15 cross-votes , eight belonged to Telangana Congress MPs, who ended up supporting the NDA candidate . “ Three MPs themselves confirmed this to me,” Kaushik said . He further accused Revanth of striking a deal with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and selling votes to the BJP.

Calling it a clear act of betrayal, Kaushik said Revanth had “backstabbed” Sudarshan Reddy and weakened the INDIA bloc’s position in national politics. The allegation has added fuel to ongoing political tensions, with opposition leaders demanding accountability from the Congress leadership over the cross-voting episode.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday (September 16, 2025) slammed PM Modi over infiltration remark, accusing the Prime Minister of using diversionary tactics before the Bihar Assembly elections. He said the BJP always raises emotional issues like infiltration during polls to divert attention from unemployment, healthcare, and governance failures.

At a rally in Purnia, PM Modi had alleged that the Opposition shielded infiltrators and claimed illegal immigration created a “demographic crisis.” He also said common people feared for the safety of women.

Responding sharply, Tejashwi Yadav asked why the BJP, which has ruled Bihar for 20 years and the Centre for 11 years, has failed to identify even a single infiltrator. “If they exist, what has Modi been doing all this time?” he asked.

He recalled that the same bogey of infiltration was raised in Jharkhand last year during Assembly elections, but once the polls ended, the issue vanished. According to him, this shows that the ruling party uses such topics only to mislead voters.

Tejashwi Yadav further attacked the NDA government for ignoring Bihar’s pressing issues. He said youth need jobs, better schools, hospitals, and real development, not hollow promises. He also pledged that the INDIA bloc would defeat the NDA and form a government committed to “padhaai, dawaai, kamaai, sunwaai, aur karwaai” (education, medicines, jobs, grievance redressal, and real solutions).

Announcing his Bihar Adhikar Yatra, Yadav said he would take this message directly to the people. He promised that an INDIA bloc government would focus on welfare, equality, and strong governance.

By branding the infiltration issue as a diversion, Tejashwi Yadav tried to shift the debate back to people’s needs. His remarks have intensified Bihar’s election battle and sharpened the clash between the NDA and INDIA bloc.

Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) president and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi issued a stern warning to the NDA alliance ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. Speaking in Bodh Gaya on Sunday, he said that unless his party is allotted 15 to 20 seats, it will contest independently on 100 constituencies.

Manjhi clarified that his party’s main objective is to gain official recognition from the Election Commission. “To achieve recognition, HAM must win at least eight Assembly seats. Considering vote share and realistic outcomes, we require 20 seats since we cannot win every seat we contest,” he explained.

He also stressed that HAM enjoys strong grassroots support, claiming at least 15,000 dedicated voters in each constituency. Manjhi said the cadre is prepared for a tough electoral battle if the NDA fails to accommodate the party’s demands.

Meanwhile, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has already declared that his party will contest all 243 Assembly seats in the state. This has intensified political tensions within both the NDA and INDIA bloc, as seat-sharing talks heat up before the elections.

In a move that has stirred national political debate, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has announced plans to contest all 243 Assembly seats in Bihar, signaling a possible break with the Congress alliance at the state level . While the INDIA bloc continues to function as a united coalition at the national stage , parties within the alliance appear to be adopting independent strategies for state elections.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s decision echoes similar approaches taken earlier by INDIA bloc members: the AAP contested alone in Punjab and Haryana, while the TMC went solo in West Bengal . Analysts suggest that RJD’s strategy is aimed at consolidating its core base in Bihar, even if it complicates ties with Congress.

The development raises questions about the long-term cohesion of the INDIA bloc , highlighting the challenges of balancing national unity with regional ambitions as elections draw closer.
