Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) inaugurated its military manufacturing facility in Morocco during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit. The plant marks India’s strategic entry into the global defence sector, strengthening bilateral ties with Africa.

The TASL facility positions India in direct competition with countries like Turkey and China, which have established defence footprints on the continent. The focus is on supplying armoured vehicles, drones, and artillery systems tailored to local requirements.

India’s first-mover advantage in Morocco allows the country to establish manufacturing and logistics capabilities on African soil. Success depends on effective local partnerships and adapting to regional operational needs, including Saharan and coastal theatres.

Experts note that India’s long-term opportunity requires both defence products and responsive engagement with African stakeholders. If TASL sustains momentum, India could reshape international defence partnerships in Africa and beyond, making this facility a significant step in its global strategy.

In a first for India, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully test-fired the Agni-P, a new-generation nuclear-capable ballistic missile, from a rail-based mobile launcher off the coast of Odisha, at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO and highlighted the missile’s strategic advantages. He noted that the rail-based mobile launcher allows the missile to move across the country without any prior setup, providing high mobility and enabling a rapid launch with minimal detection.

The Agni-P boasts advanced features that strengthen India’s defence capabilities. Its canisterised design simplifies storage and transportation, while the missile uses a ring laser gyro-based inertial navigation system (INS) and a micro inertial navigation system (MINS), along with optional GPS and NaVIC satellite navigation, ensuring precise targeting.

Previous tests have shown the missile to be highly accurate, making it a reliable deterrent. The successful test reinforces India’s ability to develop sophisticated missile systems and adds to its strategic deterrence arsenal.

The DRDO plans further trials to validate the Agni-P missile’s performance before it is formally inducted into the Indian Armed Forces. The missile’s mobility, quick launch readiness, and advanced guidance system make it a significant addition to India’s defence infrastructure.

New Delhi: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has underlined the importance of maintaining India’s military strength as global power equations continue to shift rapidly. Speaking at a strategic affairs conference, he noted that while India has always been a peace-loving nation, it cannot afford to adopt a passive stance in today’s unpredictable environment.

General Chauhan pointed out that the nature of warfare is evolving beyond traditional battlefields. He highlighted the increasing role of cyber operations, artificial intelligence, space-based assets, and unmanned systems in modern conflicts. India, he said, must prepare to counter these emerging challenges while strengthening conventional military readiness.

Emphasizing self-reliance, the CDS urged greater focus on indigenous defense manufacturing, research, and technological innovation. He praised recent progress under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative but stressed that more needs to be done to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.

General Chauhan also reiterated the importance of regional stability, calling for stronger maritime security in the Indian Ocean and continued vigilance along the country’s borders. His remarks come at a time when India is facing both security challenges in its neighborhood and a rapidly shifting global order.

The CDS concluded by asserting that India’s path to peace rests on strength, deterrence, and preparedness.
