HIV explosion in Sitamarhi has become a major worry for health officials. Reports say the number of HIV-positive patients is growing fast. According to media sources, the district now has nearly 7,400 HIV-positive people. This HIV explosion in Sitamarhi continues as 40–60 new cases appear every month.

Health teams are shocked because the number also includes more than 400 children. Doctors say many families work as migrants in big cities like Delhi and Mumbai, which increases the risk of infection.

Around 5,000 patients receive medicines every month from the Sitamarhi ART Centre. Others travel outside Bihar for treatment. Dr. Haseen Akhtar said that positive patients must follow strict precautions.

Officials believe many children got infected from their parents. The administration now plans to increase awareness programs and expand HIV testing in villages.

A debate has also started about the exact number of AIDS patients. Some posts claim Sitamarhi has 6,707 AIDS patients, including 428 children. State data shows that from 2012 to 2025, Bihar recorded 97,000 AIDS cases. The Sitamarhi share is part of this 13-year count.

The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) has received its first major rate revision in 15 years. The new structure, effective from October 13, will benefit over 40 lakh CGHS beneficiaries across India. It includes updated pricing for nearly 2,000 medical procedures such as MRI, mammography, and laparotomy.

Experts said the revision will strengthen healthcare infrastructure and make treatment more viable for private hospitals. Emkay Global Financial Services noted that the move meets long-pending demands from private healthcare providers to align rates with rising medical costs. ICRA added that it will positively impact hospital chains serving CGHS patients.

The new policy introduces a tier-based rate system, separating NABH-accredited and non-accredited hospitals. Super-specialty hospitals with more than 200 beds will earn a 15 per cent premium over the base rate. Hospitals in smaller cities will also see improved reimbursement levels.

This update is expected to make high-quality hospitals more accessible to patients and increase treatment volumes. However, ICRA cautioned that delays in government payments under CGHS remain a concern compared to private and insurance-paying patients.

India has made remarkable progress in controlling leprosy, achieving a 99 per cent drop in prevalence and 98 per cent reduction in patients under treatment over 44 years.

In 2025, the prevalence rate stood at 0.57 per 10,000 population, with 0.82 lakh patients under treatment. In 1981, the rate was 57.2, with 39.19 lakh patients. New case detection also declined 37 per cent since 2006.

The National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) played a key role by providing early diagnosis and Multidrug Therapy (MDT), including Rifampicin, Clofazimine, and Dapsone. Integration with Ayushman Bharat and child health programs strengthened early detection.

India achieved elimination status nationally in 2005, with 31 states and 638 districts maintaining prevalence below 1 per 10,000. The government aims to interrupt leprosy transmission by 2030 under the National Strategic Plan and WHO guidelines. Continued political will, adequate funding, and community engagement are crucial to sustaining success.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has developed the country’s first indigenous malaria vaccine named AdFalciVax. This recombinant vaccine was created jointly by the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) in Bhubaneswar, the National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR), and the Department of Biotechnology’s National Institute of Immunology (DBT-NII).

AdFalciVax specifically targets Plasmodium falciparum, the deadliest malaria parasite. It not only protects individuals from infection but also prevents transmission through mosquitoes, breaking the disease cycle. Health experts believe this vaccine could be a turning point in India’s fight against malaria.

Pre-clinical studies revealed strong immune responses and long-lasting protection. Unlike traditional vaccines, AdFalciVax offers broader coverage and remains stable at room temperature for up to nine months. This feature makes it easier to transport and store in remote areas where refrigeration is often unavailable.

The vaccine is produced using the safe bacterium Lactococcus lactis. For nationwide production, ICMR has licensed five companies: Indian Immunologicals Limited, TexInvention Lifecare, Panacea Biotech, Biological E Limited, and Zydus Lifesciences. The first batch is expected to be available by the end of this year, raising hopes for large-scale malaria control.
