India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, led the country after Independence when it faced poverty, illiteracy, partition challenges, and weak infrastructure. He focused on building strong institutions such as IITs, AIIMS, scientific research centres, public sector industries, and democratic systems.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took charge in 2014 when India already had a strong institutional base. His government focused on accelerating growth through Digital India, UPI, direct benefit transfers, infrastructure expansion, and startup development.

Experts say history will not judge leaders only by election victories. It will also examine how they strengthened democracy, protected institutions, upheld constitutional values, and contributed to India’s long-term progress.
