Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa accompanied him. Gandhi argued that the Leader of Opposition should not be stopped from meeting his people.

The restriction sparked strong reactions in the Congress camp. Former CM Charanjit Singh Channi called it “unfortunate.” Warring asked if Indians were unsafe even on their own soil. Senior leader Partap Singh Bajwa accused the AAP government of using “political excuses” to avoid accountability.

Congress leaders also criticized both AAP and BJP for ignoring border villagers. They said flood victims need support, not excuses.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed the development and highlighted India’s consistent stand on humanitarian grounds. India repatriated 67 Pakistani prisoners with the aim of reducing hardships for those who have served their terms.

In its statement, the MEA further urged Pakistan to expedite the release and repatriation of all Indian prisoners, including fishermen, who are still in Pakistani custody. The Indian government said the welfare of its citizens held abroad remains a top priority.

Officials also clarified that similar exchanges had taken place in the past. The MEA stressed that India will continue to push for early release and safe return of all Indian prisoners from Pakistan.
