]]> India has become the world’s third-largest solar producer with nearly 125 GW of installed capacity, said Pralhad Joshi, Minister of New and Renewable Energy. He credited India’s clear policies and consistent efforts for achieving renewable targets five years ahead of schedule. Non-fossil sources now provide over 50 percent of India’s electricity capacity.

Speaking at the curtain-raiser for the 8th International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly, Joshi said the event, scheduled for October 27-30 in New Delhi, will focus on expanding solar energy, green finance, and technology roadmaps. ISA unites 124 countries to promote global solar cooperation.

Joshi highlighted government programs like PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, benefiting over 20 lakh households, and PM-KUSUM, supporting solar pumps and small solar plants. He said these schemes bring clean energy to rural areas and empower farmers.

Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry, said India ranks third in total renewable energy and second in solar module manufacturing after China. He also noted India’s progress in green hydrogen, targeting five million tonnes of production by 2031.
