Hockey India names Junior World Cup squad with 18 players who will compete in Chennai and Madurai from November 28 to December 10.

Coach PR Sreejesh selected a balanced group with strong experience from recent international matches. Defender and dragflicker Rohit will lead the team after a solid performance in the Sultan of Johor Cup, where India won silver. Goalkeepers Bikramjit Singh and Princedeep Singh strengthen the backline.

The defence features Amir Ali, Anmol Ekka, Talem Priyobarta, Sunil Bennur, and Shardanand Tiwari. In midfield, the team includes Ankit Pal, Adrohit Ekka, Thounaojam Luwang, Manmeet Singh, and Rosan Kujur. The forwardline is paced by Sourabh Anand Kushwaha, Arshdeep Singh, Ajeet Yadav, Dilraj Singh, and Gurjot, who already has senior team experience.

Coach Sreejesh said the selections focus on skill, physical strength, and the mental ability to handle pressure. He added that training alongside the senior team in Bengaluru boosted confidence.

India will miss talented forward Araijeet Singh Hundal due to a shoulder injury, but the squad remains confident and motivated for a strong campaign at home.

India head coach Amol Muzumdar spoke about bowling concerns after their loss to Australia in Match 13 of the Women’s World Cup. He said dot ball percentage was a key focus in pre-match discussions.

Alyssa Healy scored a century as Australia chased 331 with an over to spare, setting a record for the highest chase in women’s ODI history. India’s bowlers struggled to take wickets and maintain pressure, continuing the issues seen against South Africa.

Muzumdar praised young bowlers Kranti Gaud and Sree Charani. Charani took 3/41 in her 10 overs against Australia, while Gaud has been consistent throughout the tournament. He also commended India’s fielding for energy and commitment.

India may make tactical changes for upcoming matches. Muzumdar said the team could consider promoting an all-rounder to strengthen bowling. He also credited Australia’s experienced batting for their win while affirming India’s intent to regroup.
