Nadda met former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in New Delhi on Thursday under the ‘Know BJP’ initiative.
Nadda shared insights on BJP’s organizational framework, its connection with citizens, and its commitment to inclusive development. He also conveyed warm Diwali greetings to Sunak and his family. Sunak expressed appreciation for India’s vision and highlighted the importance of closer bilateral cooperation.

Earlier this year, Sunak and his family met PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi and held discussions on various subjects.

Rolls-Royce showcased its advanced naval propulsion technology during the visit of HMS Prince of Wales to Mumbai. The company expressed pride in powering the UK’s Carrier Strike Group with its world-leading MT30 marine gas turbine.

The HMS Prince of Wales features two MT30 gas turbine alternators, each producing 36 MW. Combined with four medium-speed diesel generators, the ship generates nearly 109 MW—enough to power a small town. Rolls-Royce highlighted this as a major step forward in naval propulsion efficiency.

The company said the MT30 offers high power density, efficiency, and flexibility, supporting future technologies like next-gen radar and energy-intensive weapons. Its design allows reduced turbine numbers and greater reliability over a 50-year lifecycle.

Alex Zino, Rolls-Royce Director of Business Development, said the UK Carrier Strike Group’s visit strengthens ties with India. Currently, over 1,400 Rolls-Royce engines power aircraft and ships across Indian defence forces. Meanwhile, the Indian and Royal Navies began Exercise Konkan-25 off India’s western coast to enhance interoperability and cooperation.

India has reaffirmed its commitment to a strong and forward-looking Intellectual Property (IP) framework during trade discussions with the UK. The Commerce Ministry said the move aims to strengthen innovation while protecting India’s regulatory autonomy.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL), hosted a seminar titled “Demystifying the IPR Chapter in the India–UK CETA.” Policymakers, experts, academics, and industry representatives explored opportunities and challenges in the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) chapter.

Experts clarified that the IPR chapter supports innovation without limiting India’s policy space. It aligns with India’s legal framework and developmental priorities while modernising IP protections. Participants noted that voluntary licensing remains preferred, and flexibilities for public health, including compulsory licensing, remain intact under the Doha Declaration.

Geographical Indications (GIs) were highlighted as a key opportunity to protect Indian products in the UK market. Officials said the IPR chapter sets a benchmark for future trade agreements, combining regulatory rigor with flexibility. It aims to boost exports, strengthen India’s cultural branding, and enhance its global trade position.
