Officials said the government has built sufficient reserves and planned supplies to meet the seasonal demand across the country.

According to the Department of Fertilizers, the fertilizer stocks for Kharif season are currently strong and well managed. The government has asked farmers not to panic buy or store excess fertilizer, as supplies will reach every state and district based on demand.

Authorities said domestic production and imports continue to strengthen availability. India currently holds fertilizer stocks covering more than 51% of the expected seasonal demand. Officials say this level is higher than the usual buffer stock required for the season.

The government also confirmed that prices of major fertilizers, including urea and other nutrient-based fertilizers, will remain stable. Officials are monitoring distribution closely and working with state governments to ensure farmers receive fertilizers on time and at the correct price.

Farmers in Rajasthan’s Udaipur district staged an unusual protest over the shortage of urea fertiliser. The demonstration took place outside the Agriculture Department office under the banner of the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti. Protesters fed gulab jamun to donkeys and garlanded photos of urea bags to symbolise a funeral.

Farmer leader Vishnu Patel said growers face severe fertiliser shortages during a crucial crop stage. He claimed officials failed to supply urea on time. Patel alleged black marketing with official support. He accused authorities of diverting fertiliser meant for farmers. He said those responsible “enjoy sweets” while crops suffer in fields.

After the protest, farmers submitted a memorandum to the agriculture officer. They demanded timely fertiliser supply based on crop requirements. Farmers warned that delays could destroy standing crops. Many said they stood in long queues but returned empty-handed. Udaipur, like several parts of Rajasthan, continues to face fertiliser scarcity.

Tension rose during the protest when police intervened. Officers removed the donkeys from the protest site. Police accused farmers of mistreating animals. Farmers argued the act was symbolic and peaceful. The verbal exchange did not stop the demonstration.

Videos of the protest quickly went viral on social media. The incident has highlighted farmer frustration over fertiliser shortages across the state.
