The Indian Air Force carried out the operation using specialised aircraft equipped for aerial firefighting. Officials said the water was released over critical fire zones identified by ground teams.

In a post on X, the IAF said a dedicated team of Air Warriors was deployed at the urgent request of civic authorities. The operation followed heightened alert levels after a recent plane crash at Baramati Airport, which prompted wider coordination among emergency agencies.

The IAF said its personnel acted swiftly despite challenging terrain and weather conditions in the Lohit Valley region. Dense forests and limited road access have made ground-based firefighting difficult.

Local authorities said the aerial support helped slow the spread of the fire and protect sensitive forest areas. Fire control teams on the ground continued containment and cooling operations.

Officials said monitoring will continue over the next few days to prevent flare-ups. The State government has urged residents to remain cautious and report any signs of fresh fires.

Kangra mourns pilot Namansh Syal after the tragic Tejas crash at the Dubai Air Show. The shock spread quickly across Patialakad village. People struggled to accept that Wing Commander Namansh Syal, 34, lost his life during a practice sortie at the event. He was known for discipline and courage, and he always carried out his duties with pride.

Syal served at the Hyderabad airbase. He earned deep respect for his dedication to the Indian Air Force. He leaves behind his wife Afsaan, also an IAF officer, and their five-year-old daughter. His parents, Jagan Nath and Bina Devi, were visiting him in Hyderabad at the time of the tragedy. Their grief has shaken the entire village.

Moreover, residents shared memories of Syal throughout the day. Village pradhan Mamta said she spoke to his mother, who was too heartbroken to express her pain. Former pradhan Sanjay Kumar Chaudhary added that Syal’s sacrifice touched every family in Patialakad. His words reflected the sorrow felt across the region.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep grief as well. He said the nation had lost a brave and dedicated pilot. According to officials, Syal’s mortal remains will reach his native village by Sunday. He will receive full military honours.

As Kangra mourns, the community stands united. The village remembers him as a true son of the soil, and his service will continue to inspire future generations.

IAF trainer aircraft crashes near Chennai during a routine training mission on Friday afternoon, creating concern around the Tambaram area. IAF trainer aircraft crashes near Chennai but the situation remains under control because the pilot managed to eject safely before the crash.

The Indian Air Force confirmed that a Pilatus PC-7 trainer aircraft went down around 2 pm. The aircraft was flying from the Tambaram Air Force Station when the incident occurred. Locals in the area reported hearing a loud sound before officials reached the spot.

The pilot acted quickly, used the eject system, and landed without major injury. Emergency teams from the Air Force and local authorities reached the crash site immediately and secured the area to prevent public access.

Officials said the Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry to find the cause of the crash. The investigation will examine technical issues, weather conditions, and flight data to understand what went wrong.

The Pilatus PC-7 is widely used for training rookie pilots in the IAF, and incidents involving this aircraft remain rare. The Air Force continues regular training missions to ensure readiness, and safety protocols helped avoid casualties in this incident.

Guwahati witnessed a spectacular Air Show by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Saturday, drawing massive crowds from across the region. The event displayed the strength and precision of IAF pilots, leaving spectators in awe.

Speaking at the event, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh expressed pride in hosting such a grand show in Northeast India. He said the IAF had planned it for several years and postponed it from October to November to make it possible. Singh added that the huge public turnout showed the region’s growing national importance and public enthusiasm.

Highlighting the occasion’s significance, the Air Chief said the Northeast is no longer a distant or disconnected region. The IAF has held several air displays here before, but this was the first time Air Force Day celebrations took place in Guwahati — a historic milestone for the service.

When asked about recent military exercises, Singh clarified that these drills are part of routine training. He stressed that they are not linked to any specific developments but reflect the IAF’s focus on constant readiness and professionalism.

The event honoured the bravery and dedication of men and women who protect India’s skies. This year’s celebrations paid special tribute to Operation Sindoor, a key milestone in IAF history.

Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and Naval Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi attended the ceremony. Air Chief Marshal Singh inspected the parade, showcasing air warriors and fighter jets on display for the spectators.

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025, was a precise intelligence-driven strike in response to the Pahalgam attack. The IAF targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and deeper inside Pakistan. Advanced indigenous platforms and the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) were used for real-time coordination.

In his Special Order of the Day, Air Chief Marshal Singh praised the force’s valour and rapid deployment capabilities. He said the operation reaffirmed air power’s critical role in modern warfare. The IAF continues to demonstrate India’s technological and strategic edge, ensuring national security and strengthening defence readiness.

The historic MiG-21 retirement India ceremony was held at Chandigarh Air Force Station on Friday, marking the end of operational flying for one of the most iconic fighter jets in Indian Air Force (IAF) history. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the aircraft as “not just a machine but a symbol of India-Russia defence ties,” praising its 62 years of service and contribution to national security.

Introduced in 1963, the MiG-21 became the IAF’s first supersonic fighter and was widely regarded for its versatility. Over 870 jets were procured, many manufactured locally by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The aircraft served as an interceptor, ground-attack fighter, and trainer, shaping generations of Indian pilots. It played key roles in the 1965 and 1971 wars, the 1999 Kargil conflict, and the 2019 Balakot airstrike.

Rajnath Singh highlighted that continuous upgrades allowed the MiG-21 to remain operational for over 40 years, far exceeding the lifespan of similar jets globally. “The MiG-21 strengthened India’s air defence and inspired countless air warriors,” he said, emphasizing its enduring legacy.

The final operational sortie was flown by Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, joined by pilots from No. 23 Squadron, the last unit operating the MiG-21. Senior officials, including Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan and astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, attended the farewell.

With the MiG-21 retirement in India, the focus now shifts to indigenous fighters like the LCA Tejas and future programs such as the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft, ensuring India continues its path toward modern and self-reliant air power.

Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla attended the MiG-21’s final farewell at Chandigarh Air Force base. He called the ceremony befitting and dignified. Moreover, Shukla shared fond memories of the jet. He flew it early in his Air Force career. Before becoming an astronaut, he spent considerable time with the MiG-21.

Shukla felt fantastic during the event. He said, “I cherish many fond memories of it.” He grew up with the aircraft. Today, he reconnected with old comrades. The ceremony honored the jet’s legacy. Shukla added, “It holds a major memory in my heart.”

The MiG-21 joined the Indian Air Force in 1963. Now, it ends 63 years of service. Air Chief Marshal A P Singh led the last sortie. Three jets flew in Badal formation, an inverted ‘V’. The Surya Kiran team performed maneuvers with BAe Hawk aircraft. A water cannon salute followed.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the jet. He highlighted its role in key conflicts. For example, it fought in the 1971 war. Pilots attacked Dhaka’s Governor’s House. It also aided Kargil, Balakot airstrike, and Operation Sindoor. Singh declared, “MiG-21 provided tremendous strength to our forces.”

Furthermore, Singh viewed the MiG-21 as more than an aircraft. It symbolizes India-Russia ties. He said, “It testifies to our strong relations.” The minister called the retirement a farewell to courage and pride. In a gesture, the Air Chief handed the Form 700 logbook to Singh. This marked the end of an era.

Shukla witnessed the historic moment. The event celebrated heroic deeds and national honor.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will officially retire its iconic MiG-21 fighter jets today, marking the end of over six decades of service. The farewell ceremony will be held in Chandigarh, where the last MiG-21 Bison aircraft will be flown by Air Chief Marshal AP Singh.

Since their induction, the IAF has acquired more than 870 MiG-21 jets, which have played a pivotal role in India’s defense, including participation in wars with Pakistan and the Balakot air strikes. Despite their historical significance and contribution to national security, the jets have faced criticism over safety concerns, with several accidents reported over the years.

The retirement of the MiG-21 represents both the end of an era and the IAF’s ongoing modernization efforts, as it transitions to more advanced fighter aircraft to strengthen India’s aerial defense capabilities and ensure the safety of its pilots.
