The TVK Party Record in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections has surprised political observers. Vijay led his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), to a historic performance across the state. The party won 108 seats and secured deposits in all 234 constituencies it contested.

This TVK Party Record is significant because even established regional parties often lose deposits in several constituencies. TVK candidates maintained strong vote shares and achieved impressive margins in many seats, showing broad voter support across the state.

The average victory margin for TVK candidates reached about 22,842 votes. This margin is higher than many results recorded by traditional Dravidian parties such as Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in several constituencies.

Political analysts say Vijay’s popularity and the party’s focused campaign strategy helped TVK gain strong trust among voters. In its first major electoral contest, TVK has created a new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics.

The Mamata Banerjee resignation issue has become a major political debate after the recent West Bengal Assembly election results. Reports say Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that she would not resign even though her party lost the election. Bharatiya Janata Party secured a clear majority in the state.

The Mamata Banerjee resignation issue now raises an important constitutional question: what happens if a Chief Minister refuses to step down after losing power?

According to constitutional experts, the Governor plays a key role in such situations. The Governor can ask the sitting Chief Minister to prove a majority in the Assembly. If the leader fails to show majority support, the Governor can dismiss the government and invite the majority party to form a new government.

In West Bengal’s case, the BJP’s victory means its leader can be invited to form the next government. Normally, an outgoing Chief Minister resigns voluntarily after defeat. However, if that does not happen, the Governor can intervene to ensure a smooth transfer of power.

The political standoff has intensified debates about democratic procedures and constitutional powers in India.

Nitish Kumar and Nitin Nabin resigned from their legislative posts in Bihar on Monday. The development came after both leaders were elected to the Rajya Sabha earlier this month. The news that Nitish Kumar and Nitin Nabin resign has triggered major political discussion in the state.

Nitish Kumar stepped down from his position as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC). At the same time, Nitin Nabin resigned as the MLA from the Bankipur constituency in the state assembly. Both leaders took this step to comply with constitutional rules that do not allow a person to hold membership in two legislatures at the same time.

The move comes around two weeks after they won seats in the Rajya Sabha from Bihar. Their resignations mark a shift from state-level roles to national politics in the upper house of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the decision has intensified political discussions in Bihar about future leadership and the next phase of governance in the state.

The NDA siege for Rajya Sabha elections has started in Bihar as the ruling alliance moves to secure all seats in the upcoming poll. Leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) held a strategy meeting in Patna and asked all 202 alliance MLAs to stay in the capital until March 16.

The decision came during a meeting at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. Senior leaders explained the voting process to legislators, especially first-time MLAs who will participate in the Rajya Sabha election. The NDA siege for Rajya Sabha elections aims to prevent cross-voting and ensure unity among alliance members.

Bihar has five Rajya Sabha seats going to polls, but six candidates are in the race. This situation has made voting necessary after several years.

The NDA currently has 202 MLAs in the 243-member Bihar Assembly, which gives the alliance a strong advantage. One candidate needs 41 votes to win a seat. While four seats appear secure for the NDA, the alliance hopes to capture the fifth seat as well.

On Thursday, the Congress leadership held separate meetings with senior leaders from both States and urged them to work together to expose what it described as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s failures in governance.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge chaired the meetings. Former party chief Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal also attended the discussions. The leadership stressed unity and coordination at all organisational levels.

During the meetings, leaders discussed the urgent need to strengthen booth-level structures. The party asked State units to speed up the appointment of booth-level agents and improve voter outreach. In addition, leaders raised concerns over alleged irregularities during the final stages of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Moreover, the Congress leadership highlighted the importance of reviving the movement to restore MGNREGA in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Leaders said BJP governments had weakened employment guarantees and delayed wage payments, hurting rural households.

The party also advised leaders to take BJP’s unfulfilled promises directly to the public. According to Congress sources, the focus will remain on rising unemployment, inflation, and shrinking welfare support.

Overall, the leadership called for disciplined teamwork, sustained grassroots engagement, and a clear narrative to challenge the BJP’s political dominance in both States.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Tharoor described the interaction as positive and constructive. He said the discussion helped clear misunderstandings and reaffirmed unity within the Congress leadership. “All is good and we are moving together on the same page,” he said, adding that there was nothing more to explain.

The UK minister husband remark on Bihar women has sparked a major political controversy in India. Girdhari Lal Sahu, husband of Uttarakhand minister Rekha Arya, made the statement during a public event. He claimed that women from Bihar could be “found for marriage at ₹20,000–₹25,000,” which many called insulting and sexist.

The comment quickly went viral on social media. Public anger grew as people accused Sahu of degrading women and Bihar as a whole. Although he later issued an apology, political reactions intensified across party lines.

Leaders from the BJP in Bihar strongly condemned the remark. They said such statements reflect a poor mindset and harm the dignity of women. The party demanded accountability and respect for women from all states.

The Janata Dal (United) also criticized the comment. Its leaders said no one has the right to insult women or treat them as commodities.

Opposition parties joined the attack. RJD and Congress accused the BJP of remaining silent for too long. They demanded a clear apology and strict action.

The issue has heated up Bihar’s political atmosphere and continues to dominate public debate.

The IRCTC scam case has once again put the spotlight on RJD leaders. Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has summoned Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, and Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the case. The hearing is scheduled for October 13, just months before the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. The court will give its decision on framing charges that day.

The IRCTC scam dates back to 2004–2009, when Lalu Prasad Yadav was Railway Minister. It is alleged that the maintenance contract for two IRCTC hotels was awarded to Sujata Hotels in exchange for three acres of prime land at a very low price. The CBI has named Lalu, Rabri, Tejashwi, and others as accused in the case.

The FIR was filed in 2017, and a charge sheet was submitted in 2018. All the accused were granted bail. The case has moved slowly, but the October 13 hearing could mark a turning point. With elections approaching, the verdict in the IRCTC scam may have a major political impact in Bihar.

A Bihar court has delivered a major verdict in a decades-old case. MP-MLA Court Judge Sanjay Kumar in Begusarai sentenced former MP Suraj Bhan Singh to one year in prison, while BJP leader Ram Lakhan Singh received four years. Ram Lakhan Singh’s aide, Virendra Ishwar, was also sentenced to four years.

The case dates back to October 1992, when police raided a wax factory in Begusarai. The factory, linked to Ram Lakhan Singh, was allegedly used to hide weapons. During the raid, the accused opened fire on police. Ram Lakhan Singh and Virendra Ishwar were arrested at the spot, while Suraj Bhan Singh escaped.

After 33 years, the Bihar court sentences former MP Suraj Bhan Singh under Section 353 IPC. He was granted bail due to the short sentence. Ram Lakhan Singh and Virendra Ishwar face charges under Section 307 and Arms Act, leading to longer jail terms.

Despite his criminal past, Suraj Bhan Singh went on to become an MP from Ballia in 2004 on an LJP ticket. His political mentor, Ram Lakhan Singh, contested several elections but never won.
