Ola Electric, led by Bhavish Aggarwal, sold 16,034 e-scooters in October — a 61% drop from the same month last year. Data from the government’s Vahan portal showed that sales also fell from September, when the company sold 13,421 units. The decline followed a temporary sales suspension in Goa after customer complaints about poor service and registration delays.

The company faced more trouble when police named its executives in the suicide case of a 38-year-old engineer, K. Aravind. Before his death in Bengaluru on September 28, Aravind left a 28-page note accusing his superiors of harassment and unpaid dues.

During a recent hearing, the complainant’s lawyer called Ola Electric “worse than the East India Company” and questioned a ₹17.46 lakh transfer made to Aravind’s account two days after his death. Ola Electric rejected the claims, saying Aravind never filed any formal grievance while employed with the company.

The Karnataka High Court has ordered police to carry out a fair investigation without harassing the accused. The next hearing will take place on November 17.

Here’s the latest Zoho Arattai IPO update: Zoho co-founder and CEO Sridhar Vembu has made it clear that the software company is not in a hurry to go public, emphasizing that its focus remains on innovation and long-term growth. The recent success of Zoho’s messaging app, Arattai, underscores why the company prefers staying private.

In a post on X, Vembu explained that Arattai would likely never have been developed under the financial pressures faced by public companies. “Arattai would very likely not have been built by a public company that faces quarter-to-quarter financial pressure. It was a ‘hopelessly foolish’ project, and even our employees were skeptical it would gain traction,” he said.

Vembu stressed that Zoho’s strategy is driven by a desire to strengthen India’s engineering capabilities. “We developed it because we need strong engineering talent in Bharat. Many more such initiatives are needed, and we are committed to this,” he added.

As part of its long-term approach, Zoho is running several R&D-heavy projects in areas including compilers, databases, operating systems, security, hardware, chip design, robotics, and artificial intelligence. The company also invests in firms where immediate profitability is not expected, treating itself as a self-funding industrial research lab.

“Zoho ignores short-term profits as long as we remain financially stable,” Vembu explained. He noted that the company’s leadership maintains a frugal lifestyle, similar to ISRO engineers, to focus resources on innovation rather than quarterly gains.

Framing this philosophy as central to Zoho’s identity, Vembu called it the “essence of Bharat,” likening it to Japan’s developmental model. While speculation about a Zoho IPO continues, this Zoho Arattai IPO update makes it clear that the company prioritizes building a strong engineering foundation and funding ambitious R&D projects over responding to stock market pressures.

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday that the ‘Make in India’ initiative has transformed the country into a global manufacturing hub under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Launched 11 years ago, the scheme aimed to revive India’s manufacturing strength.

Goyal highlighted record foreign direct investment inflows, improved ease of doing business, India becoming the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally, rising exports, and expanding defence production as key achievements. The production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme has attracted investments and generated employment.

He noted that India’s startup ecosystem, driven by youth and women, has made the country the world’s third-largest innovation hub. Goyal emphasized that the journey was possible due to the efforts of industries, MSMEs, startups, entrepreneurs, and citizens embracing the Swadeshi spirit.

To further boost the initiative, Goyal launched new DPIIT initiatives to improve industry efficiency and a globally competitive logistics ecosystem. He also unveiled Logistics Data Bank (LDB) 2.0, promoting India’s digitally empowered and export-ready economy. He stated that the next phase of ‘Make in India’ will advance Aatmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat, while the nation’s indigenous defence production continues to grow.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming India, and startups are leading the change for the Viksit Bharat vision. They improve healthcare, education, agriculture, and governance. Moreover, the government launched the IndiaAI Mission in 2024 with a Rs 10,371.92 crore budget to scale AI infrastructure and support startups. Currently, over 4,500 AI startups operate in India, and 40% were founded in the last three years.

In healthcare, startups such as Niramai and SigTuple speed up early detection and lab testing. For example, Niramai’s Thermalytix screens for breast cancer without radiation, reaching over one lakh women across 1,000 camps.Similarly, in agriculture, DeHaat serves seven lakh smallholders by providing alerts on diseases, pests, and planting schedules. Early trials indicate that yields rise by 10-20% when farmers follow its guidance.

In education, tools like Bhashini and AI4Bharat support 35+ Indian languages. As a result, students access learning materials in their native languages, while teachers get real-time assistance.

Furthermore, governance improves through AI chatbots on platforms like Umang and MyGov, cutting delays in permits and grievance redressal. By combining innovation and action, AI startups can boost incomes, productivity, and learning outcomes across semi-urban and rural India.
