Chandigarh Police Response Time tops India, setting a new national benchmark in emergency services during 2025. The city police now reach crime or incident locations in just 5.06 minutes on average.

Officials credited this achievement to an expanded PCR fleet, advanced GPS tracking, and a centralised control room. A faster dispatch system has also improved coordination across the city. The quick response has helped prevent crimes and strengthened public confidence in law enforcement.

During 2025, Chandigarh Police achieved major success in crime control and public safety. The force intensified anti-drug operations and adopted a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics. Police seized drug-related assets worth over ₹8.79 crore, disrupting several trafficking networks.

The department also strengthened its cyber crime units. Specialised teams handled online fraud and digital scams with speed and technical expertise. Victims received quicker relief due to timely investigations.

Chandigarh became the first Union Territory to fully implement new criminal laws from July 1, 2024. Under these laws, police registered 5,156 FIRs and filed 4,503 charge sheets. Courts recorded an impressive 89 percent conviction rate.

The average case disposal time dropped from 300 days to 110 days. These achievements highlight modern, technology-driven, and citizen-focused policing.

The Chandigarh Police has decided to auction unclaimed seized items lying in police malkhanas for up to 27 years. Many of these items belong to cases that ended long ago. Courts delivered verdicts, and sentences were completed. Yet, no one came forward to reclaim the property.

Police officials said the seized goods include old Nokia mobile phones, floppy disks, laptops, gas cylinders, utensils, buckets, and scooter spare parts. Sector-17 police station stores most of these items. Due to prolonged storage, space shortages have now emerged in the malkhanas.

The police have issued a public notice asking owners to claim their belongings within one month. Officials warned that failure to do so will lead to auction under legal provisions. After the auction, authorities will not accept any claims or objections.

Legal experts cited two main reasons for the delay. Many owners came from other states and considered the items low in value. Others remained unaware that they could reclaim seized goods after case disposal.

Police confirmed that the items relate to cases under theft, fraud, NDPS, copyright violations, immigration laws, and road accidents. Some accused were acquitted, some cases went untraced, and some accused died.

Earlier, Chandigarh Police cleared seized vehicles following court directions. The current move follows the same legal process.

The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has suffered a major blow after the state government refused to grant prosecution sanction in the high-profile ₹2 crore bribery case involving Rajasthan Police Service (RPS) officer Divya Mittal. The decision by the Personnel Department has effectively given Mittal a clean chit, raising serious questions over the ACB’s investigation.

The case dates back to 2021, when illegal and narcotic drugs worth nearly ₹16 crore were seized in Ajmer and Jaipur. Divya Mittal, then posted as SOG in-charge in Ajmer, was accused of demanding a ₹2 crore bribe from a Haridwar-based pharmaceutical firm to remove its name from the probe. The alleged deal was later said to have been reduced to ₹50 lakh.

Despite a three-year investigation, the ACB failed to present conclusive evidence strong enough to sustain prosecution. A trap attempt also failed, yet Mittal was arrested in January 2023, a move now under scrutiny.

Sources say the government cited procedural lapses, including non-compliance with Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which mandates prior approval before initiating action. Allegations of selective use of audio evidence further weakened the case. After reviewing all aspects, the government concluded the case would not stand in court.
