India clarified that the ceasefire resulted from talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of both countries. Officials stressed that there was no third-party involvement at any stage. New Delhi has consistently maintained that issues with Pakistan are bilateral and do not require external mediation.

The clarification came after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi claimed Beijing had mediated multiple global conflicts. Speaking at an international forum, Wang said China helped ease tensions between India and Pakistan, among other disputes. He described China’s approach as neutral and focused on long-term peace.

Indian officials dismissed these remarks, calling them inaccurate. They underlined that Pakistan requested de-escalation after sustained pressure following India’s military action. The communication channel between the two DGMOs was activated directly, leading to the ceasefire understanding.

India also reiterated its long-standing position that dialogue with Pakistan can only take place in an environment free from terrorism. The government said misleading claims about mediation undermine established diplomatic facts and regional realities.

Kiriakou revealed that many Pakistanis were angered when he said Pakistan could never defeat India in a conventional war. He received threats, including warnings from supporters of a former Pakistani Prime Minister, who sent him a formal letter demanding an immediate apology.

Responding in his trademark blunt style, Kiriakou said he “wiped and threw away that letter”, dismissing Pakistan’s outrage entirely.

In his earlier interview with ANI, he stated: “Nothing good—absolutely nothing—will come from a real war between India and Pakistan because the Pakistanis will lose. They will lose. And I’m not talking about nuclear weapons; I’m talking only about a conventional war.”

Kiriakou, known for his forthright views, said Pakistan must accept the geopolitical reality instead of issuing threats or seeking apologies for factual assessments.
