India, in its Right of Reply at the UN General Assembly (UNGA), said Pakistan’s military pleaded for a cessation of fighting during Operation Sindoor. First Secretary Petal Gahlot stressed that no third party should intervene in matters between New Delhi and Islamabad.

The remarks followed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address at the UNGA. He credited former US President Donald Trump with averting war between the nuclear-armed neighbours. Furthermore, he called for a “composite, comprehensive and result-oriented” dialogue with India and criticised New Delhi over Kashmir.

“This Assembly witnessed absurd theatrics from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who glorified terrorism central to their foreign policy,” Gahlot said.

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. India stated that it agreed to cease hostilities after direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of both militaries.

Moreover, Gahlot added that Pakistan’s claims ignored facts. She stressed India’s stance that terrorism must end and both nations should resolve disputes directly without outside intervention.

Experts note that India’s Right of Reply at UNGA reflects its firm position on national security. Additionally, they say it underscores India’s rejection of third-party interference. This exchange at the UNGA shows how regional tensions still influence global diplomacy.

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to respect Sikh sentiments. He appealed to allow devotees to visit Nankana Sahib during Guru Nanak Dev’s Parkash Purb in November.

Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa said national security was important but added that faith and traditions should not be ignored. He called it disheartening that the spiritual practices of lakhs of Sikhs were repeatedly sacrificed due to Indo-Pak tensions.

BJP leaders, including Som Parkash and Avinash Rai Khanna, backed the Centre’s stand. They stressed that while Sikhs deeply revered historic shrines across the border, the safety of pilgrims must come first. They also pointed out that the nation’s security could not be compromised under any circumstances.

The issue once again highlights the emotional bond of Sikhs with shrines in Pakistan. It also shows the continuing struggle to balance religious devotion with national security.

A controversy recently erupted after Indian cricketers refrained from shaking hands with their Pakistani counterparts following a match . Responding to the debate, a senior official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) clarified the matter . The official stated that there is no mandatory rule in the cricket rulebook requiring players to shake hands with opponents.

He explained that the handshake tradition is merely a goodwill gesture, not a binding regulation. “When such a rule does not exist, the Indian team is under no obligation to extend a handshake, especially with rivals with whom relations are strained,” the official said.

The clarification comes amid heightened scrutiny over Indo-Pak cricketing ties, which often reflect the tense diplomatic atmosphere between the two nations. The BCCI’s stance underlines that gestures of courtesy are voluntary and cannot be enforced when political sensitivities are involved.

Pakistan cricket coach *Mike Hesson* expressed disappointment after Indian players reportedly refused to shake hands with the Pakistani team following their recent match. Speaking to the media, Hesson said the gesture—or the lack of it—was disheartening for his side. “We waited on the ground for quite some time, but the Indian players did not come forward. This is not the spirit of the game,” he remarked.

Acknowledging his team’s poor performance in the match, Hesson admitted that Pakistan did not play up to expectations but stressed that sportsmanship should remain above results. The controversy also highlighted another moment when, during the toss, *Indian player Suryakumar Yadav did not shake hands with the Pakistan captain*.

The incident has sparked debate among cricket fans and analysts, with many questioning whether political tensions are spilling over into the cricketing arena, overshadowing the spirit of fair play and camaraderie.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Islamabad is ready for a composite dialogue with India to discuss all issues, including Kashmir. Speaking to the media, Dar stressed that Pakistan will not “beg for talks” but wants respectful engagement.

Relations between the two neighbors have worsened in recent months. After the deadly Pahalgam attack in April, India launched Operation Sindoor, striking terrorist bases. Pakistan retaliated with attacks on Indian military camps. This exchange quickly escalated, with both sides carrying out drone and missile strikes. The tension eased only after both countries reached an understanding on May 10.

Dar reminded that the composite dialogue with India began in 2003 under General Pervez Musharraf. It covered eight major issues, including Kashmir, trade, and security. However, the process collapsed after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and was never revived.

While Indian leaders maintain that talks will only focus on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and terrorism, Dar insisted that Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts had gained global attention. He also warned that Pakistan is fully prepared to respond strongly to any aggression by India on land, air, or sea.
