He also conveyed warm Diwali greetings to Sunak and his family. Sunak expressed appreciation for India’s vision and highlighted the importance of closer bilateral cooperation.

Earlier this year, Sunak and his family met PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi and held discussions on various subjects. Sunak acknowledged his friendship with Modi and emphasized the need to enhance economic, security, and scientific collaboration between both nations.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday highlighted the need for urgent United Nations reforms. Speaking at the UN Troop Contributing Countries Chiefs’ Conclave (UNTCC 2025) in New Delhi, he said the UN still reflects the world of 1945, not the realities of 2025. He warned that institutions unable to adapt risk losing relevance and credibility.

Jaishankar outlined India’s peacekeeping philosophy, rooted in its civilisational ethos and the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ — the world as one family. He stressed that peacekeeping must be guided by justice, inclusivity, and multilateral cooperation, especially in addressing pandemics, terrorism, economic instability, and climate change.

He praised UN peacekeepers worldwide, particularly the 182 Indian personnel who sacrificed their lives for peace. Jaishankar called for realistic mandates, clear resources, and safety measures for troops, emphasising that host states bear primary responsibility for civilian protection. He also highlighted the role of technology in enhancing operational efficiency and countering misinformation in peacekeeping missions.

Reiterating India’s commitment, Jaishankar said the country supports a reformed UN that is more inclusive, democratic, and representative of today’s global south. He encouraged amplifying developing nations’ voices and taking greater responsibilities in a multilateral, reformed order.

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav emphasised the urgent need to support developing countries in implementing ambitious climate measures. Speaking at the Global Stock Take (GST) session during Pre-CoP30 Meetings in Brazil, he said focus must shift from reviews to practical actions.

The GST assesses global progress under the Paris Agreement every five years. Yadav highlighted that developing nations face critical resource shortages for adaptation and mitigation. “Dialogue is important, but action is imperative,” he said, stressing that continuous reviews without implementation are no longer sufficient.

Yadav noted the first GST successfully affirmed the Paris Agreement’s implementation. He outlined GST’s three roles: evaluate collective progress, identify gaps, and guide enhanced domestic and global climate actions. Future GSTs should consider scientific assessments carefully, ensuring relevance and rigor.

Earlier, at the Pre-CoP30 Ministerial Roundtable, Yadav urged translating global commitments into local solutions. He said climate policies must improve people’s lives and accelerate implementation. COP30 will be hosted in Belém, Brazil, from November 10-21, 2025.

MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George, speaking at the PBC Ministerial meeting in New York, said India will work closely with international partners to advance global peace and development.

George said India’s peacebuilding approach is inspired by the ethos of “the world is one family.” He added that India has actively partnered with countries in the Global South, providing over US$40 billion in grants, concessional loans, and capacity-building projects.

He highlighted challenges in peacebuilding due to rising conflicts and limited finances. George urged countries to develop transparent, accountable, and inclusive institutions. He emphasized using technology to improve public services, foster trust, and promote social cohesion for sustainable peace.

Earlier this week, George attended the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting (CFAMM) 2025 alongside the UN General Assembly.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda said FSSAI has become a global leader in food safety and standards. Speaking at the third Global Food Regulator Summit at Bharat Mandapam, he highlighted India’s commitment to safe, resilient, and inclusive food systems.

Nadda noted FSSAI’s role in developing global food safety standards, including rapid testing kits and mobile laboratories. India hosts the Codex Committee on Spices and Culinary Herbs and has developed 14 global standards while coordinating regional cooperation in Asia.

He also mentioned international partnerships through MoUs with countries like Bhutan, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Brazil, and Australia. At the national level, FSSAI modernized standards, approved rapid testing kits, expanded labs, and improved food import safety through accredited overseas labs and SWIFT integration.

Emphasizing the importance of food safety, Nadda said diet quality influences body, mind, and life. He warned that lapses in food safety can trigger public health crises, disrupt trade, and harm global trust. He called for stronger compliance to ensure the health and well-being of populations worldwide.
