Hyderabad hosted a major global education summit on Monday, where experts from academia, industry and government outlined how Telangana can build a world-class education hub. Speakers said the state needs clarity on its purpose, goals and resources before shaping its global strategy. Former NAAC director Prof. V.S. Prasad emphasized that global education must remain accessible to all students, not just a select group.

He explained that NAAC plans a new multi-level grading system to match national and international standards. He added that Telangana must define clear benchmarks to qualify as a global hub. Health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha highlighted the government’s top priority—education for the girl child. He said empowered girls can reshape the state’s socio-economic future.

Industry leaders also stressed the need for digital skills. NAASCOM executive director Sandhya Chintala said global partnerships and investments will strengthen the state’s talent pipeline. She noted that nearly 45% of Silicon Valley’s workforce has roots in Telangana, including tech leaders like Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai.

Experts agreed that excellence and equity must work together. They said private institutions often drive quality, while public institutions promote equity. They insisted that a true global hub should improve learning outcomes across all colleges, not only elite ones.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi will preside over the World Standards Day (WSD) programme on Tuesday. The event is organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. WSD recognises experts, engineers, scientists, policymakers, and innovators who ensure quality, safety, and sustainability.

The celebration will take place at the National Institute of Training for Standardization (NITS). BIS will release the National Lighting Code of India 2025 and launch the Learning Management System (LMS) and Online Standards Development (OSD) Module of the BIS Standards Portal.

This year’s theme, “A Shared Vision for a Better World: Standards for Sustainable Development Goals,” highlights the role of international standards in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). BIS works with governments, industries, academia, and civil society to promote alignment and global cooperation.

World Standards Day began in 1970 to raise awareness about the importance of standards. BIS collaborates with ministries and industry associations to identify gaps and formulate standards. Recently, BIS seized goods from e-commerce companies that failed to meet certified standards, ensuring public safety and compliance.
