Former cricketer Mithun Manhas is emerging as the frontrunner for the BCCI president’s post. An informal meeting of key decision-makers was held on Saturday.Manhas, 45, played domestic cricket for Delhi and later Jammu and Kashmir. He has also contributed to coaching and cricket development post-retirement.

Senior administrators reportedly view him as a consensus candidate who can bridge differences among state associations. His experience as a player and coach strengthens his candidature.Saturday’s meeting included senior BCCI members and state officials. Other experienced administrators were discussed, but Manhas received strong backing from influential quarters.

The BCCI president’s role carries weight nationally and internationally. With ICC elections approaching, the choice of leadership is closely monitored. If elected, Manhas would join former players like Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny in administrative leadership.

Arun Dhumal will continue as IPL Governing Council chairman, while Rajiv Shukla is expected to remain Vice-President.

The election process begins with nomination filing on September 21. Scrutiny and final candidate list publishing will follow on September 23, with voting scheduled during the AGM on September 28 if necessary.

Team India assistant coach Sitanshu Kotak clarified that the management primarily monitors fast bowlers’ workload, while batsmen are checked only if they feel mentally fatigued. His remarks came after Shubman Gill featured in a packed cricket schedule across formats.

Gill recently led India in a five-match Test series in England, before playing in the Champions Trophy and the IPL with Gujarat Titans. He later joined the T20I squad for the Asia Cup and will return to captain India in the upcoming West Indies Test series. Despite this heavy workload, Kotak dismissed concerns about overuse, stressing that bowlers—especially fast bowlers—remain the main focus of workload management.

Kotak explained that batsmen are resilient and rarely require structured workload monitoring. “For batsmen, it’s not that much of an issue unless they feel mentally drained,” he said. His comments gain significance amid growing speculation that the BCCI may groom Gill as India’s all-format captain, given his leadership roles across formats.

Speaking on Gill’s technique, Kotak praised his adaptability. He highlighted that modern cricketers switch seamlessly between red-ball and white-ball formats, adjusting their approach during practice sessions depending on the format demands.
