Cognizant Launch Sparks Major IT Shift in Vizag

Visakhapatnam is poised for a significant transformation in the IT sector. The city is steadily emerging as a key technology hub, and the government’s efforts received a major boost as Cognizant confirmed the launch of its operations on December 12. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh will attend the inaugural ceremony, further highlighting the importance of this development.

Cognizant’s AI Technology Center to Drive Growth

Cognizant received 22.19 acres in Kapuluppada to establish a large-scale AI Technology Center with an investment of ₹1,600 crore. The company aims to create 8,000 jobs through this project. Although the full-fledged campus will be ready by 2029, Cognizant will immediately begin operations from the Mahati building on Rushikonda Hill-2. This early start is expected to accelerate the region’s growth momentum.

Additional AI Investments Strengthen Hill-2

Alongside Cognizant, Sritek Tammin will also build an AI Technology Center on Hill-2. The company plans to generate 2,000 jobs, which further enhances Visakhapatnam’s potential as an emerging AI destination.

Sattva Developers to Build Major IT and Data Center Campus

Furthermore, in IT Park Hill-4, Bengaluru-based Sattva Developers will set up the Vantage Vizag Campus, which includes IT space and a modern data center. The government allocated 30 acres to the firm, and it plans to invest ₹1,500 crore to create 25,000 jobs. This project stands out as one of the largest private investments in the region, and it is expected to significantly elevate Visakhapatnam’s IT infrastructure.

Multiple Companies Begin Construction in Kapuluppada

Meanwhile, several other companies—including Imaginotive, Fluentgrid, Motherson Technologies, and Quarks Technosoft—will begin construction of their permanent campuses in the Kapuluppada IT Park. Together, these investments will strengthen Visakhapatnam’s global IT presence and boost the local economy. Officials believe the combined projects will launch a new era of employment and economic expansion for the city.

India’s Data Centre Boom Hits New Milestone

India’s data centre capacity has crossed 1.5 gigawatts (GW) for the first time during the first nine months of 2025, according to CBRE South Asia. The country added 260 megawatts of new supply between January and September, driven by rapid digitalisation and strong AI investments.

Mumbai leads India’s data centre market with a 53% share, equivalent to around 1,530 MW, thanks to its proximity to global internet hubs and submarine cable routes. Chennai, Delhi-NCR, and Bengaluru follow with 20%, 10%, and 7% shares respectively, accounting for nearly 90% of total capacity.

Anshuman Magazine, Chairman & CEO of CBRE for India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, said the growth reflects India’s digital transformation. He noted that rising cloud adoption, Internet of Things (IoT), and AI integration are boosting infrastructure demand across the country.

Supported by government policies and cost advantages, India has emerged as a global data hub. The report highlighted $94 billion in data centre investment commitments since 2019, with Telangana, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu leading. During January–September 2025 alone, the sector attracted $30 billion in new investments.
