In a post on X, Jitendra Singh confirmed that authorities have renamed the station as “Martyr Captain Sunil Kumar Choudhary Kathua Railway Station.” He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for acting swiftly on the proposal. He also thanked Home Minister Amit Shah and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for supporting the process.

According to Government Order No.129-JK(GAD) of 2026, issued on January 29, the Jammu and Kashmir administration formally approved the renaming. The order applies to Kathua district and reflects strong public sentiment in favour of honouring the martyr.

The move has emotional significance for local residents, who had raised the demand repeatedly. The Kathua Railway Station renamed decision now stands as a permanent tribute to Captain Choudhary’s bravery and service to the nation.

Earlier, Jitendra Singh also marked the 77th Republic Day by unfurling the national flag at his residence. He highlighted India’s cultural diversity, including Jammu and Kashmir’s lavender fields, Basohli miniature paintings, and traditional hill dances showcased during the celebrations.

Fire brigade teams and police officers arrived within minutes. Their quick action ensured every labourer and staff member exited the tunnel safely. A total of 39 workers moved out before the flames spread further.

According to project officials, the dumper burst into flames while moving inside the tunnel on the Kishtwar–Padar road. Workers initially tried to control the fire by pouring water, but the smoke became too dense.

Firefighters managed to control the blaze soon after reaching the spot. Police officers also began an immediate investigation. Officials believe the fire may have started due to a technical fault in the dumper, though the exact cause remains under review.

No major damage occurred, and the situation returned to normal after the rescue. Authorities will release a detailed report once the investigation concludes. The incident highlights the importance of rapid response systems in high-risk construction zones.
