Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Sunday clarified that the caste survey data not for reservation purposes. He repeated that the state government will not link the survey to quota policy.

Parameshwara said the purpose of the caste survey is different. The government ordered the study to assess the social and economic conditions of communities. According to him, the caste survey data not for reservation, but for framing development and welfare programs.

The statement comes at a sensitive time. Several communities in Karnataka expressed concern that the survey results may alter the present quota system. Opposition parties also raised doubts and accused the government of hiding its true plans.

Parameshwara rejected these charges. He stressed that the government has no intention of touching the existing reservation structure. “People should not fall for rumors,” he told reporters in Bengaluru. He assured that constitutional guidelines on reservation will continue without change.

The Home Minister added that the survey findings will help the state identify backward areas. He said the goal is to use accurate data to improve education, jobs, and social welfare schemes.

Political analysts believe the issue will remain in focus. With elections near, both ruling and opposition parties may use the caste survey debate to appeal to voters. For now, the government hopes to calm tensions by repeating that the caste survey data not for reservation.

The controversy has sparked heated arguments in public meetings and media debates. However, officials insist that people should see the survey as a social study, not as a tool for political gains. By restating the purpose, Parameshwara tried to assure citizens and reduce unrest.
