Four Maoists surrender in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Friday, marking another major success for the State’s sustained anti-Naxal operations. The surrendered cadres, including two women, carried a combined reward of ₹8 lakh, officials confirmed.

Notably, the Maoists belonged to the Kistaram area committee of the south Bastar division. According to Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj P, they surrendered under the State government’s Poona Margem initiative, which focuses on rehabilitation and social reintegration. Importantly, the cadres approached security forces voluntarily and handed over their weapons without resistance.

Moreover, the surrendered Maoists told police that the government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy played a crucial role in their decision. At the same time, they admitted that continuous security pressure limited their movement and disrupted their operations. Consequently, they chose to abandon violence and return to civilian life.

Among them, Sodhi Joga, an area committee member, carried a reward of ₹5 lakh. Meanwhile, the other three — Dabar Ganga alias Madkam Ganga, Sodhi Raje, and Madvi Budhari — carried rewards of ₹1 lakh each. Additionally, they surrendered one INSAS rifle, one Self Loading Rifle (SLR), one .303 rifle, one .315 rifle, and ammunition.

Furthermore, police teams from Sukma district and Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitarama Raju district coordinated closely to facilitate the surrender. Officials said newly established security camps in Kistaram and Golapalli, along with improved road connectivity, weakened Maoist networks significantly. As a result, insurgents now find it harder to operate freely in the region.

Four Maoists surrender in Sukma amid a broader trend across Chhattisgarh. So far this year, more than 200 Maoists have laid down arms. Similarly, in neighbouring Bijapur district, 52 Maoists surrendered on January 15 alone. Last year, over 1,500 Maoists joined the mainstream in the State.

Finally, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan urged remaining Maoist cadres to give up violence. He assured them of security, rehabilitation benefits, and a dignified future. Meanwhile, the Centre continues to pursue its goal of eliminating Maoism nationwide by March 31 this year.

In a major development against left-wing extremism, 11 Maoists surrendered to the Gondia district police in Maharashtra, including a senior commander of the Maharashtra–Madhya Pradesh–Chhattisgarh (MMC) zone. The surrender took place during a special camp in Nagpur, in the presence of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ankit Goyal.

Among those who surrendered is Vinod Sayanna, also known by multiple aliases including Anant, Vikas, Ramesh Sayanna, Bhaskar Lingavya, and Ramaswamy. He is regarded as one of the most significant MMC figures to lay down arms in recent years. Other surrendered cadres include divisional committee members, area committee members, and Anant Squad members who were active in the Darrekasa forests and surrounding Gondia–Balaghat–Rajnandgaon belt for years.

Maharashtra Police confirmed that the surrendered Maoists handed over an extensive arsenal, including AK-47, SLR, INSAS, and .303 rifles, along with magazines, rounds, and detonators. Many of the cadres carried individual government rewards ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh, while the combined reward for all 11 cadres was ₹89 lakh.

Officials credited the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, introduced in 2005, for encouraging senior cadres to give up arms. The program provides financial assistance, livelihood support, and reintegration measures. So far, 37 Maoists have surrendered in Gondia district under this initiative.

DIG Ankit Goyal said, “This surrender marks a significant setback for Maoist influence in the MMC zone and will weaken their mobility and recruitment capabilities.” The surrendered cadres will now undergo rehabilitation under government guidelines, further contributing to the state’s anti-Maoist efforts.

This event underscores the effectiveness of combined law enforcement and rehabilitation strategies in curbing left-wing extremism in Maharashtra.

The CPI-Maoist Central Military Commission has issued a call for celebrations of the PLGA’s 25th anniversary from December 2 to 8. The appeal has come at a time when Operation Kagar is being intensified by security forces across several states. The statement urged cadres to defend the movement and resist the “Hindutva-backed state repression.” The CMC said that guerrilla actions must continue despite ongoing offensive operations.

The Maoist letter stated that 320 cadres were killed between December 2024 and November 2025. The list included party general secretary Basavaraju and several senior leaders. The document said that Chhattisgarh alone reported 243 deaths. The organisation described these losses as a major setback to the movement.

The CMC also claimed that retaliation by PLGA units caused casualties among security forces. It stated that 116 personnel were killed and 208 were injured in various attacks. The letter mentioned ambushes, IED blasts, and attacks on police informers and BJP leaders during the year.

The organisation outlined its main priorities for the anniversary period. It included protection of leadership, strict implementation of guerrilla rules, and expansion of activities in forest, plain, and urban regions. The CMC urged cadres to preserve the movement’s “revolutionary spirit” despite mounting losses.

In a major success for Chhattisgarh’s anti-insurgency operations, 27 active Maoists surrendered before security forces in Sukma district on Wednesday. Among them were two senior cadres from the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Battalion-01, a key unit of the CPI (Maoist). Officials said both had long evaded arrest and carried high cash rewards.

Authorities confirmed the total bounty value of the surrendered group was ₹50 lakh. The group included 10 women and 17 men. One Maoist had a reward of ₹10 lakh, while others carried bounties ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹9 lakh. Most of them were involved in providing logistical support and local mobilisation in the Bastar region.

Police officials attributed the development to the success of the Chhattisgarh Navsankalp Surrender Policy and Niyat Nella Nar scheme. They said continuous security operations and rehabilitation measures encouraged many to give up arms and join mainstream society.

Officials expect the mass surrender to weaken the Maoist network in southern Chhattisgarh. The government plans to rehabilitate the surrendered cadres through financial aid and vocational training. The district administration called the event a “turning point” in the fight against extremism and a “victory for dialogue over destruction.”

US President Donald Trump has officially named Antifa a “major terrorist organisation,” tying the anti-fascist movement to increasing political violence. The announcement came Thursday via Trump’s Truth Social account. This followed the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, allegedly by Antifa sympathiser Tyler Robinson.

Federal investigators found bullet casings with anti-fascist slogans and references to “Bella Ciao,” an Italian resistance song. Robinson confessed to the killing in a Discord channel and left a note outlining his plan. White House officials, including Stephen Miller, pointed to this case as proof of left-wing extremism. They argue that organisations bankroll violence.

Antifa, short for “anti-fascist,” isn’t a formal organisation. Instead, it consists of decentralised groups opposed to fascism, racism, and authoritarianism. Some members participate in direct action, including counter-protests and doxxing. While these tactics sometimes lead to violent clashes, critics argue Antifa is more of an ideology than an organised group. They believe Trump’s declaration targets political dissent and weakens civil liberties.

This move stirs controversy about political violence and civil rights in the US, with many questioning the limits of protest movements and law enforcement power.

A Maoist carrying ₹1 cr bounty killed in Jharkhand gunfight along with two others early Monday morning. The encounter broke out around 6 a.m. in the Pantitri forest under Gorhar police station limits of Hazaribag district, officials confirmed.

The Maoist carrying ₹1 cr bounty killed in Jharkhand was identified as Sahdev Soren, a senior leader of the banned CPI (Maoist). His squad clashed with security forces during a joint operation. Police said Soren had long been on their radar and carried a reward of ₹1 crore on his head.

Security forces launched the operation after receiving intelligence inputs about Maoist movement in the forest. Heavy exchange of fire followed, leading to the deaths of Soren and two of his associates. After the gunfight, security personnel recovered the bodies and began a search operation to rule out the presence of more extremists in the area.

Officials said the killing of Sahdev Soren marks a major success in the fight against Left Wing Extremism in Jharkhand. Security forces remain deployed in the forest region to prevent any retaliatory attacks from Maoist cadres.
