At least 200 parrots have died over the past four days along the banks of the Narmada River in Khargone district, prompting concern among residents and triggering an investigation by forest and veterinary authorities. Officials confirmed on Friday (January 2, 2026) that food poisoning was the likely cause, while bird flu has been ruled out.

The carcasses were discovered near an aqueduct bridge in the Badwah area, a spot frequented by visitors. Following alerts from locals, teams from the forest department, veterinary department, and wildlife wing rushed to the site and have been monitoring the area continuously for the past four days.

District Wildlife Warden Tony Sharma said several parrots were initially found alive during rescue operations. “Unfortunately, the toxicity of the food consumed was so severe that many of the rescued birds succumbed shortly afterward,” he said, adding that preliminary findings strongly suggest poisoning caused by improper and contaminated feeding.

Veterinarian Dr Manisha Chauhan, who conducted the post-mortem examinations, said the birds showed clear symptoms of food poisoning, with no clinical or pathological indicators of avian influenza. To confirm the findings, viscera samples have been sent to Jabalpur for detailed laboratory testing.

Veterinary extension officer Dr Suresh Baghel said examinations revealed rice grains and small pebbles in the stomachs of the dead parrots. Officials believe the deaths may be linked to cooked or leftover food fed by visitors, pesticide-laced grains from nearby agricultural fields, or contaminated water intake from the river.

In response, the forest department has imposed a ban on feeding birds near the aqueduct bridge and deployed staff to enforce the restriction. Authorities have urged people to refrain from feeding wild birds, warning that human food can severely disrupt avian digestive systems and prove fatal.

Officials said awareness campaigns may be launched to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, Maulana Saddam Hussain from Harpalpur allegedly threatened his wife with triple talaq because she was “not beautiful.” Along with verbal threats, he reportedly demanded ₹12 lakh and physically abused her. The victim’s brother stated that the harassment is linked to the Maulana’s interest in another woman.

The wife approached the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Chhatarpur after previous complaints in Tikamgarh went unaddressed.

Under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, triple talaq—whether oral, written, or electronic—is illegal and punishable by up to 3 years in prison. This incident highlights ongoing enforcement challenges despite the law.

Bhopal: The deaths of 20 children in Madhya Pradesh allegedly due to Coldfif Cough Syrup have sparked outrage, with questions being raised about government negligence. Although the tragic deaths were reported on September 19, authorities delayed their response.

Shockingly, the syrup samples were sent from Chhindwara to Bhopal — a distance of just 300 km — only on September 29 via registered post, reaching the lab after three days instead of within hours. Critics say this delay reflects serious lapses in the investigation process. Despite pending lab results, the state Health Minister prematurely declared on October 1 and 3 that the syrup was safe.

The sequence of events has fueled allegations of a cover-up and administrative failure. Public health activists are demanding a judicial probe, citing the incident as yet another example of weak drug regulation and government apathy toward child safety.

The Coldrif Cough Syrup ban in Uttar Pradesh followed the tragic death of 14 children in Madhya Pradesh. Authorities linked the syrup, produced by Shreesan Pharmaceutical, to kidney failure and other severe reactions among children in Chhindwara.

The state government moved quickly to protect public health. Drug inspectors will collect syrup samples from both government and private hospitals. These samples will be tested in a Lucknow laboratory to confirm their safety. Meanwhile, the government has stopped the sale, import, and export of the syrup until further notice.

Officials said the Coldrif Cough Syrup ban is a preventive step to avoid further harm. They added that the move will also help strengthen public trust in drug safety.

Soon after the incident, protests broke out in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Congress workers demonstrated in Bhopal and Jaipur, demanding the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Rajendra Shukla. They blamed the government for failing to regulate harmful medicines.

In Jaipur, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers staged protests outside Kaysons Pharma. Party leader Amit Dadhich urged authorities to shut the company down, citing corruption and negligence. He accused officials of allowing fake medicines to reach the market and endanger children’s lives.

Furthermore, health officials in Uttar Pradesh assured that strict drug testing and company monitoring would continue. The Coldrif Cough Syrup ban sends a clear message about accountability and the need for higher safety standards in India’s pharmaceutical industry.

Police in Rajgarh district have exposed a bizarre case in which a local BJP leader’s son staged his own death to escape heavy debts.

The accused, Vishal Soni, son of BJP leader Mahesh Soni, was under mounting pressure to repay a loan of ₹1.40 crore. Instead of clearing his dues, Vishal allegedly abandoned his car near the Kalisindh River earlier this month to give the impression that he had drowned. His disappearance triggered a massive search operation, with police, divers, and disaster response teams combing a 20-kilometer stretch of the river for more than 10 days.

Authorities initially believed Vishal had met with an accident. However, suspicions grew when no body was found. A detailed probe revealed that he had fled to Maharashtra, where he was hiding while his family and associates claimed he was missing.

When tracked down and questioned, Vishal admitted to faking his death. His plan, according to investigators, was to use the staged accident to avoid repayment or delay legal action from banks and financiers. Police are now examining whether anyone helped him in carrying out the elaborate plan.

The arrest has shocked locals, not only because of the scale of the deception but also due to the misuse of government resources in the river search. Officials have said the operation cost valuable time and manpower that could have been avoided if the truth had surfaced earlier.

Vishal Soni has been brought back to Rajgarh, where further interrogation is underway. The case highlights the rising incidents of loan fraud in smaller towns and raises questions on how financial disputes are driving people to extreme measures.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district on September 17 to lay the foundation stone of the country’s first PM MITRA Park and launch the fortnight-long Sewa Pakhwada. The Prime Minister will also roll out the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan at Bhainsola village during his birthday visit.

The PM Modi to lay foundation of PM MITRA Park initiative marks a major step for India’s textile industry. According to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the project has already drawn investment proposals worth ₹23,000 crore from 114 textile companies. Moreover, the park could generate nearly three lakh jobs, bringing opportunities to lakhs of families across the state.

Spread over 2,158 acres, the PM MITRA Park follows the 5F vision — Farm-to-Fibre-to-Factory-to-Fashion-to-Foreign. Authorities have allotted about 1,300 acres, and they plan to release the remaining land in phases. Therefore, the project promises both industrial growth and long-term employment.

Meanwhile, PM Modi will launch Sewa Pakhwada, a two-week campaign from September 17 to October 2. The program will include state-wide health check-up camps, voluntary blood donation drives, and nutrition counseling. In addition, doctors will screen people for diabetes, hypertension, anaemia, and tuberculosis. Adolescent girls will also receive training sessions on menstrual hygiene and healthy diets.

CM Yadav highlighted that women’s health and empowerment form the backbone of social progress. He added that Madhya Pradesh must play a central role in achieving the Developed India 2047 mission. Consequently, this visit by the Prime Minister reflects both economic ambition and a commitment to social welfare.
