Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has rolled out a bold cleanliness campaign aimed at curbing littering in public spaces. Under the directions of MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, IAS, citizens are encouraged to photograph individuals dumping garbage in open areas and upload the evidence through the MC App. After verification by area inspectors, challans are issued, and informers receive ₹250 for each confirmed report.

A special awareness drive was held in Manimajra’s Ward 5 (Mori Gate) and Ward 6 (Govindpura). Accompanied by traditional dhol-nagara, officials visited the homes of those caught littering. In a striking measure, the discarded garbage was returned to the offenders, followed by an immediate penalty of ₹13,401 each.

Led by Sanitary Inspector Davinder Rohilla, the campaign aims to instill accountability and deter habitual violators. Commissioner Amit Kumar urged residents to avoid littering and use only MC-operated vehicles for waste segregation and disposal. He noted rising public vigilance, with more citizens reporting violations through the app.

The initiative saw strong participation from residents and Safai Mitras, strengthening Chandigarh’s mission to become India’s cleanest city.
