The latest is Bandi Prakash alias Prabhat, a top Maoist leader from Telangana, who surrendered before DGP Shivadhar Reddy on Tuesday.

Prakash, a native of Mandamarri in Mancherial district, played a key role in Maoist activities for over four decades. He began his journey in the early 1980s during the “Go to the Villages” movement. Later, he became the president of the Singareni Workers’ Union, which operated under the Maoist wing.

Over the years, Prakash organized several campaigns in the National Park area and remained active in the CPI-Maoist party for nearly 45 years. His leadership influenced multiple generations of activists across Telangana and neighboring states.

Officials said his surrender marks a major success for the Telangana Police’s efforts to encourage Maoist cadre to surrender. His move is expected to inspire other members to give up arms and join peaceful, lawful life.

The letter, released last night, claims that the Maoist group is temporarily halting its armed struggle. The Maoist Party Central Committee, represented by Abhay, said they would hold internal discussions before deciding whether to join peace talks within a month.

The controversy grew when BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari reacted to the letter. He praised Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, claiming this marks a victory. This raised suspicions about the letter’s authenticity, with some questioning whether it was fabricated by the police or a faction within the Maoist party.

A key point of suspicion is the inclusion of Abhay’s photo in the letter. It is the first time such a photo has appeared. Critics suggest this could signal a shift in party ideology, especially after internal disputes within the Maoist group. Some believe the photo indicates that Abhay supports peace talks.

Telangana BJP leader and Union Home Ministry Minister of State, Bandi Sanjay , has made sensational remarks targeting Chief Minister Revanth Reddy . In a series of social media posts, Sanjay criticized the CM for allegedly disrespecting police sacrifices by claiming that Maoist ideology cannot be eradicated . He emphasized that such comments from the state’s Home Minister are inappropriate and called for at least honoring the police for their service.

Sanjay further alleged that former Maoists now occupy positions in the Telangana Cabinet and even claimed that one Maoist was recommended for a Padma award. He asserted that individuals with Maoist leanings are present in the State Education Commission and accused Sudarshan Reddy, a current NDA vice-presidential candidate , of holding similar ideologies.

Highlighting the risk of influencing Telangana’s youth towards Maoism again, Bandi Sanjay stressed that the government’s goal should be the complete elimination of Maoist ideology, echoing Home Minister Amit Shah’s plan to make India Maoist-free by March 31, 2026 .
