The door-to-door waste collection programme focuses on waste segregation at source. Households and offices must separate waste into wet, dry, and hazardous categories. As a result, the Municipal Corporation aims to reduce mixed waste and improve scientific processing.

Moreover, the collected waste will directly reach Resource Management Centres. It will also connect with advanced facilities such as the 150-tonne processing plant at Jagatpura. This system will speed up recycling and safe disposal.

In addition, the drive targets garbage vulnerable points across the city. Municipal teams will use mechanical road sweepers and specialised vehicles. Private contractors will operate these vehicles to ensure daily cleanliness. Importantly, the initiative follows the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. It also complies with directions from the National Green Tribunal and the Punjab Pollution Control Board.

Meanwhile, Mohali continues to grow as Punjab’s major urban hub. With IT City, Aerocity, Medicity, and the airport corridor, civic pressure has increased. Therefore, strong waste systems have become essential. Guided by the Punjab Government’s 6R principle, the initiative aims to set an example for other cities.
