MP News: Confusion continues over the number of deaths caused by contaminated drinking water in Indore, even as Chief Minister Mohan Yadav says his government is focused on public suffering, not statistics.

Speaking to reporters, Yadav said even a single death is painful for the government. He stressed that relief will not depend on numbers. According to him, official data usually includes only those cases where postmortems are conducted, while administrative procedures follow a separate process.

The controversy deepened after district authorities distributed compensation cheques to families of 18 deceased persons, despite the official death toll being stated as seven. This contradiction has raised serious questions over transparency and record-keeping.

Officials from the Indore division said health department records confirm seven deaths so far, while other officers linked only six fatalities directly to water contamination. The lack of clarity has added to public anxiety.

Earlier, Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava had claimed that at least 10 patients died due to diarrhoea caused by polluted water. Local residents, however, allege the death toll is as high as 17, including a six-month-old infant.

As investigations continue, the gap between official claims and ground realities remains unresolved. Public trust now hinges on the final audit report.

Madhya Pradesh is preparing for a significant cabinet reshuffle as Chief Minister Mohan Yadav completes two years in office. Party sources confirm that the long-pending cabinet expansion will happen only after the BJP announces its new national president. With JP Nadda’s term ending on 20 January 2026, the central leadership is expected to declare the new president soon, clearing the path for immediate changes in the MP cabinet.

CM Mohan Yadav has already completed detailed departmental reviews and submitted performance reports of all ministers. Independent assessments ordered by the central leadership reportedly show dissatisfaction with the output of several ministries. Only a handful of ministers are considered strong performers.

Although four cabinet posts remain vacant, insiders claim that at least four existing ministers may face removal. This reshuffle could bring nearly six new faces into the cabinet, increasing internal pressure to finalise decisions swiftly.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh is moving forward while maintaining a balance between development and heritage. He was speaking on Saturday at the “Viksit Madhya Pradesh–2047: Heritage and Development” event organised by Daily Swadesh Jyoti at the Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium in Bhopal.

The Chief Minister said that the state’s irrigation capacity has risen from 7.5 lakh hectares to 55 lakh hectares and is progressing toward the 100-lakh-hectare target. In the last two years alone, new irrigation facilities have been launched on 9 lakh hectares. Medical education has also expanded rapidly. The state, which once had only 5 medical colleges, now has 39, with more institutions opening under the PPP model.

He added that Indore and Bhopal are being developed as metropolitan regions, the metro train has been inaugurated, and development projects worth ₹8 lakh crore have begun, expected to generate employment for nearly 6 lakh people.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s vision of balancing heritage and development, he mentioned gifting a copy of the Gita during his visit to Russia. The state is giving special attention to developing heritage and spiritual centres such as Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, and Orchha. The event also saw the release of Swadesh Jyoti’s special edition “Heritage and Development.”

Sehore: The crisis at VIT University Sehore escalated sharply after students launched a massive protest alleging poor food quality and contaminated drinking water in hostels. The agitation spiralled into violence, prompting Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to take immediate cognisance and order strict action.

CM Yadav directed district in-charge minister Krishna Gaur to rush to the campus, interact with students, and ensure swift redressal of grievances. Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar was also instructed to conduct a detailed review of private universities across the state to safeguard student welfare. The CM stressed that food and water quality issues must be resolved without delay.

The situation deteriorated late Tuesday night as angry students vandalised property and set buses, cars and even an ambulance on fire. Over 4,000 hostel students had reportedly been facing food and water issues for months, with nearly 100 students hospitalised in Sehore, Ashta and Bhopal due to jaundice-like symptoms. While some students claimed deaths had occurred, the university administration denied the allegations.

Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar attacked the management, alleging exploitation and negligence. Meanwhile, NSUI demanded FIRs against those responsible, following which the Private University Regulatory Commission formed a three-member probe committee to submit a report in three days.

The administration has temporarily shut the university till December 8.
