Tej Pratap Yadav, son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, is contesting from Mahua after forming his own party, Janshakti Janata Dal. He left the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and said he will not return to it. RJD has fielded Mukesh Roshan, the current MLA and a close supporter of Tejashwi Yadav. By 9 a.m., about 14.49% of voters had already cast their votes under tight security. The mood in Mahua is energetic, and both candidates are focusing on development and public trust. NDA’s Sanjay Kumar Singh from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is also competing for the seat.

On the last day of campaigning, Bhojpuri actresses Akshara Singh and Pakhi Hegde joined Tej Pratap Yadav in Mahua to seek votes. Amit Kumar, better known as Bachcha Rai, was the key accused in the 2016 Bihar Board topper scam. The scam exposed fake toppers like Ruby Rai and Saurabh Shrestha, who failed to answer basic subject questions. This incident embarrassed the Bihar education system.

Bachcha Rai, then principal of VR College in Vaishali, was named the mastermind. The Enforcement Directorate seized crores of cash and land from him, linking him to money laundering and illegal construction. After spending time in jail, he secured bail.

Now, Bachcha Rai has joined Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM and declared himself as a candidate from Mahua in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Mahua has turned into a hot seat, with RJD’s Mukesh Roshan facing challenges from Tej Pratap Yadav and now Bachcha Rai.

The big question is whether AIMIM will back a candidate with such a tainted record. Bachcha Rai’s comeback in Bihar politics shows how controversial figures still find space in the political arena. His entry will surely heat up Mahua’s election battle.
