In a major anti-narcotics breakthrough, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Mizoram Excise & Narcotics Department have seized illegal drugs worth ₹4.79 crore in Aizawl and arrested four suspects, including two Myanmar nationals. The coordinated intelligence-led operation began late on Thursday and continued into the early hours of Saturday, November 22.

Acting on specific inputs regarding the movement of narcotics between Seling and Aizawl, a joint team intercepted a suspicious vehicle on National Highway-6 around 10:30 p.m. on November 21. Although no contraband was recovered during the initial search, the interrogation of the occupants revealed that a narcotics consignment was expected to be collected inside Aizawl later that night.

Following that information, the team escorted the suspects to a suspected hideout located in Chandmari West. Around 4:30 a.m., in the presence of independent witnesses, officers conducted a search of the premises and discovered two more individuals inside. During questioning, the suspects voluntarily produced two bags containing a large quantity of illegal substances.

Officials confirmed the recovery of six packets of suspected methamphetamine weighing 5.89 kg, along with three soap cases of suspected heroin weighing 41 grams. The seized haul has been valued at ₹4,79,66,500 based on prevailing illegal market estimates.

All four individuals were arrested on the spot. The seized narcotics, along with the accused, have been handed over to the Excise & Narcotics Department for further investigation and prosecution. According to authorities, the success of the raid was the result of efficient coordination, real-time intelligence sharing and seamless cooperation between state and central enforcement teams.

Security agencies say such operations are crucial as Mizoram continues to face challenges posed by cross-border drug smuggling from Myanmar. The BSF reiterated that it will intensify surveillance and maintain pressure on organised trafficking cartels operating in the region.

He noted that the BSF continues to deliver strong results on multiple security fronts. Shah said the force helped secure the Tirupati corridor and successfully pushed the Naxal network back. He shared that BSF teams surrendered 127 Maoists, arrested 73, and neutralised 22 involved in violent activities. He added that teams also intercepted large quantities of narcotics during recent operations.

Shah strongly defended the SIR process and told citizens that it plays a key role in protecting India’s democracy. He criticised political parties that oppose the initiative and said the government remains firm on removing infiltrators from the country.

He recalled the bravery of BSF and the Army during Operation Sindoor, which led Pakistan to announce a ceasefire. Shah said India’s forces destroyed multiple hideouts and training facilities of major terror groups and reinforced national security.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has lauded the Assam Police for a major anti-narcotics operation in Karbi Anglong, declaring that the drug mafia got a Bollywood-style beating. The raid led to the seizure of contraband worth several crores of rupees, demonstrating the state government’s strict stance against narcotics trafficking.

According to official reports, police conducted a well-planned operation targeting drug networks operating in the region. During the raid, officers recovered morphine weighing several kilograms, valued at over ₹ 11 crore, along with other illicit substances. CM Sarma praised the operation on social media, stating that it sends a strong signal to criminals that Assam will not tolerate the drug trade.

The Chief Minister’s remarks highlight the severity of the drug menace in Assam and the government’s commitment to aggressive enforcement. Earlier operations in Karbi Anglong had also resulted in the seizure of 4.1 kg of morphine, valued at over ₹ 4 crore, showing a consistent crackdown on narcotics networks.

Local analysts believe Sarma’s description of the crackdown as a “Bollywood-style beating” emphasizes both the scale of the operation and the political message: the government is openly dismantling drug networks, not merely conducting low-profile raids. This move aims to boost public confidence in law enforcement and deter criminal activity in the region.

Authorities have indicated that the fight against narcotics in Assam is ongoing, with further intelligence-driven operations planned to target smuggling and trafficking routes. The CM reaffirmed the state’s zero-tolerance approach, underscoring the need for continued vigilance to ensure the safety and security of Assam’s citizens.
