In Delhi, the judicial custody of Gaganpreet Kaur, accused in a BMW crash, was extended till September 27. The accident claimed the life of senior Finance Ministry officer Navjot Singh in Dhaula Kuan earlier this month. His wife sustained grievous injuries.

The 38-year-old accused appeared before Patiala House Court after completing her initial two-day custody. Judicial Magistrate Ankit Garg heard preliminary arguments regarding her bail plea, which has been scheduled for Saturday. The court will review arguments from both prosecution and defense before delivering its decision.

During proceedings, the prosecution alleged that the BMW was speeding and raised concerns over post-accident handling. Victims were transported to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar, allegedly linked to the accused’s relatives, rather than the nearest available hospital, raising questions about potential tampering with evidence. CCTV footage submitted by the Investigating Officer is being reviewed to establish the sequence of events leading to the crash.

Gaganpreet Kaur faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and reckless driving. The case has attracted widespread attention due to the victim’s high-profile status. The court’s decision on bail will determine whether she remains in judicial custody as the investigation continues.

The court will hear the matter on Thursday.

The accident, which occurred on September 14 in Dhaula Kuan, resulted in the death of Navjot Singh, a senior finance ministry official. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, suffered severe injuries. Gaganpreet Kaur, the accused driver, allegedly hit the motorcycle carrying the couple near the Delhi Cantonment metro station.

Gaganpreet Kaur’s counsel requested the court to preserve the CCTV footage from the scene. The court scheduled a hearing for Thursday to review the request. The accused’s bail plea is also under consideration. Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta is representing her.

Delhi Police also questioned Gaganpreet Kaur’s husband, Parikshit Kakkar. He joined the investigation and told police he was unaware of the accident’s details. He said Gaganpreet had told him she was taking the victims to the hospital. Investigators are verifying his statement with other evidence.

Gaganpreet’s decision to take the victims to a distant hospital instead of a nearby one has raised questions about her actions. Police are continuing their investigation.

The husband of the woman accused of driving the BMW that killed a senior finance ministry official said he informed his father-in-law that his wife was taking the victims to Nulife Hospital. The hospital is owned by one of her relatives, police sources revealed.

Navjot Singh (52), a deputy secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, died on Sunday (September 14, 2025) after a BMW crashed into his motorcycle while he was returning from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara with his wife, Sandeep Kaur. Singh died on the spot, while Sandeep Kaur suffered severe injuries.

Sandeep Kaur told police that she begged Gaganpreet Kaur and her husband, Parikshit, to take them to the nearest hospital. Instead, they drove the couple nearly 19 km away to Nulife Hospital. According to Parikshit, he did not know how the accident occurred. He said his wife told him she was taking the victims there while he called his father-in-law.

When asked why she avoided a closer hospital, Gaganpreet claimed she panicked and was familiar with Nulife Hospital from past visits during the COVID-19 pandemic. Police will verify Parikshit’s statements through call records.

In a shocking incident, the Navjot Singh Delhi accident has claimed the life of Finance Ministry Deputy Secretary Navjot Singh after a speeding BMW rammed into his motorcycle late Sunday evening. His wife, who was riding pillion, sustained critical injuries and is fighting for her life in hospital.

The accident occurred near Moti Bagh when Singh was returning home from work. Eyewitnesses told police that the luxury BMW hit the motorcycle from behind at high speed, causing both riders to be thrown onto the road. Passersby rushed them to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Doctors declared Singh dead on arrival, while his wife remains in intensive care.

Police confirmed that the BMW driver abandoned the vehicle a few kilometers away and fled the scene. The car has been seized, and a case has been registered under charges of rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. A manhunt is underway to trace the accused.

Navjot Singh, 46, served as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. Colleagues described him as a hardworking, upright officer with a deep commitment to economic policy reforms. His untimely death has left the Finance Ministry and the wider bureaucracy in shock.

This Navjot Singh Delhi accident has also reignited debate about Delhi’s worsening road safety. Activists note that high-speed luxury cars are increasingly involved in fatal crashes and demanded stricter traffic enforcement and harsher penalties for reckless drivers.

Funeral arrangements for Singh will be finalized once his extended family arrives in the capital. The Finance Ministry is expected to release an official condolence statement soon.
