Four legislators skipped voting despite being present in Patna, raising serious questions within the alliance.

The missing MLAs included three from Congress and one from RJD. Their absence came at a crucial time when the opposition needed every vote to stay competitive in the tight contest for the fifth Rajya Sabha seat.

Leaders tried to contact the absent MLAs, but they remained unreachable throughout the day. This unexpected move reduced the alliance’s vote count and weakened its position against the NDA.

Meanwhile, the NDA maintained full attendance and cast all its votes. The absence of these MLAs ultimately tilted the balance in favor of the ruling alliance in the election.

The incident has triggered political tension, with questions rising over internal coordination and possible cross-voting within the opposition camp.

Rajya Sabha Elections in Bihar will take place on 16 March, marking the first time in 12 years that voting is required for the state’s Upper House seats. The election will decide five seats, and polling will run from 9 am to 4 pm. Counting will take place on the same day.

The Rajya Sabha Elections in Bihar have become competitive because six candidates are contesting for five seats. In 2014, a similar situation occurred when voting was required. At that time, JD(U) candidates Pavan Verma and Ghulam Rasool Balyawi won after defeating independent challengers, while veteran leader Sharad Yadav was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha.

This year, several MPs from Bihar will retire in April. Among them are Harivansh Narayan Singh, Ramnath Thakur, Prem Gupta, Amarendra Dhari Singh, and Upendra Kushwaha. Political parties have already announced their nominees for the upcoming contest.

Based on the current strength in the Bihar Assembly, four seats appear secure for the NDA alliance. However, the fifth seat remains uncertain and may depend on smaller parties and possible cross-voting by MLAs.

A special MP-MLA court in Patna has allowed jailed Mokama MLA Anant Singh to cast his vote in the Rajya Sabha Elections scheduled for March 16.

The court accepted a petition filed by Singh’s lawyer. The plea requested permission for him to vote because he is an elected MLA and a voter in the assembly. After hearing the case, the court directed jail authorities to take him to the Bihar Assembly under tight police security so he can cast his vote.

Singh is currently lodged in Beur Jail in connection with the Dularchand Yadav murder case. Authorities will bring him to the assembly only for voting and return him to jail immediately after the process.

Bihar will vote for five Rajya Sabha seats on March 16. Political observers say every vote matters, especially in the contest for the fifth seat. Singh’s vote could strengthen the NDA’s chances in the election.

The Bihar Rajya Sabha Election has gained momentum as BJP observer and Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma arrived in Patna ahead of the March 16 voting. Speaking to the media, he expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will win all five seats in the Bihar Rajya Sabha Election.

Sharma said the NDA has strong numbers in the Bihar Assembly and does not face any difficulty in securing victory. Party leaders welcomed him at Patna Airport when he arrived to oversee preparations for the election.

Five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar will fall vacant on April 9. The NDA has fielded five candidates from its alliance partners, including BJP, JD(U), and RLJM.

The opposition alliance has also entered the contest by fielding an additional candidate. This move has made voting necessary for the seats instead of an uncontested election.

Political leaders now expect a close contest as parties work to secure support from independent and smaller party legislators before the vote.

The Bihar Rajya Sabha Elections 2026 have become more competitive after six candidates filed nominations for five seats. The final result may depend on cross-voting when legislators cast their votes on March 16.

In the Bihar Rajya Sabha Elections 2026, the ruling NDA alliance has fielded five candidates, while the opposition has nominated one candidate from the RJD-led bloc. Political observers believe the contest for the fifth seat could become very close.

Based on the current strength in the Bihar Assembly, the NDA can comfortably win four seats. However, the alliance still needs support from a few more MLAs to secure the fifth seat. Because of this gap, cross-voting during the March 16 voting may play an important role in deciding the final outcome.

The opposition also hopes to gain extra votes from smaller parties and independent MLAs. Leaders from both camps have expressed confidence about victory. Vote counting will take place on the same day after polling ends.

The Bihar Rajya Sabha Elections Nomination includes candidates from the ruling alliance and the opposition, making the contest politically important.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar filed his nomination along with NDA candidates Nitin Nabin, Ramnath Thakur, Upendra Kushwaha and Shivesh Ram. Senior political leaders also attended the nomination event and showed strong support for the alliance candidates.

On the opposition side, the Rashtriya Janata Dal nominated sitting Rajya Sabha MP Amarendra Dhari Singh. Six candidates are now in the race for five seats, so voting will take place to decide the winners.

The Rajya Sabha election is required because the term of five MPs from Bihar will end on April 9. Political observers say the results may influence future leadership changes and the political balance in the state.

Voting for the Rajya Sabha seats is scheduled for March 16 according to the official election schedule.
