Bihar Top News Today brings the latest updates from across the state on January 13, 2026. Bihar Top News Today starts with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar chairing an important cabinet meeting in Patna. The meeting is expected to take key decisions related to development works, administration, and public welfare schemes.

In Patna, a serious road accident on Atal Path injured several people after a car collided with an auto. Police rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, where some remain under treatment. Officials have started an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Political activity remains high in Bihar. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav returned to Patna amid discussions about party strategy and internal matters. Meanwhile, Tej Pratap Yadav attended a traditional dahi-chura lunch hosted by senior leaders, drawing attention across political circles.

Cold weather continues to trouble residents. The weather department has warned that the cold wave may last for a few more days. Morning fog and low temperatures have affected daily life in many districts. Some schools reopened with revised timings to protect students from the chill.

In another incident, family members of a NEET student who died in a hostel staged a protest demanding a fair investigation. Police said they are examining all angles and no clear evidence has emerged so far.

RLM split threat has intensified within the Rashtriya Lok Morcha as fresh signs of internal unrest emerge. The party, led by Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha, has already seen several leaders quit over the induction of his son, Deepak Prakash, into the Nitish Kumar cabinet. The decision has angered many within the party.

The situation took a sharper turn after RLM MLA Rameshwar Mahato shared a pointed Facebook post. Though he named no one, his message spoke about leadership intentions drifting away from public interest. The post quickly went viral and sparked intense political debate. Many party insiders believe the remarks target Kushwaha’s leadership style.

Mahato represents Bajpatti in Sitamarhi district and is among the four RLMO MLAs elected in the recent Bihar Assembly polls. The party contested six seats within the NDA and won four, including one won by Kushwaha’s wife, Snehlata.

The unrest began when Kushwaha bypassed sitting MLAs and secured a ministerial post for his son, who is not a legislator. This move triggered resignations by senior leaders, including the party’s national vice president.

With MLAs openly unhappy, the RLM split threat now looms large over Bihar’s political landscape.

The RLM splits after Upendra Kushwaha appoints son Deepak Prakash as a minister in the Nitish Kumar government. The decision triggered protests inside the party. Several senior leaders resigned from the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), saying they disagreed with the leadership.

National vice president Jitendra Nath, state spokesperson Rahul Kumar, and general secretary Pramod Yadav quit the party. They sent a letter to Kushwaha, claiming the recent decisions were unfair and harmful to the organization.

In his resignation letter, Jitendra Nath said he worked with Upendra Kushwaha for nine years but could no longer accept many political and organizational decisions. He said teamwork was no longer possible.

Jitendra also alleged that Kushwaha ignored party interests during seat-sharing in the Bihar elections. He questioned why Deepak Prakash, who never won an election, directly became a minister. He also said Kushwaha’s wife is an MLA but was not made a minister, suggesting lack of trust.

RLM leaders complained that none of the party’s four MLAs were given minister posts, while Deepak Prakash was selected.

After criticism increased, Kushwaha posted a clarification. He said he appointed his son to prevent another split, claiming MLAs and MPs of his earlier party RLSP had deserted him in the past.

Nitish Kumar took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the tenth time. The event was held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many other leaders were present. The focus of this ceremony was the entry of first-time Bihar ministers, who bring new energy to the cabinet.

Several leaders joined the cabinet for the first time. These first-time Bihar ministers include Ramkripal Yadav, Sanjay Singh Tiger, Arun Shankar Prasad, Rama Nishad, Lakhendra Kumar Roshan, and Shreyasi Singh from the BJP. Leaders from LJP and RLSP also received positions. Sanjay Kumar and Sanjay Kumar Singh from Chirag Paswan’s party, and Deepak Prakash from Upendra Kushwaha’s party, became ministers for the first time.

Ramkripal Yadav earlier served as a minister at the Centre but never became a minister in Bihar. Sanjay Singh Tiger, a strong grassroots leader, won from Ara. Rama Nishad, wife of former MP Ajay Nishad, won from Aurai in Muzaffarpur. Lakhendra Kumar Roshan, from Patepur, is considered close to Union Minister Nityanand Rai.

Three former BJP ministers—Dilip Jaiswal, Pramod Kumar, and Narayan Prasad—also returned to the cabinet, adding experience to the new team.
