The project marks a major step toward clean and sustainable transport in India.

The India first hydrogen train will operate under Northern Railway and is now in the final stage of preparation. Authorities have ensured a stable 11 kV power supply for the hydrogen plant in Jind, which will fuel the train during commissioning and daily operations.

Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi recently reviewed power arrangements in a hybrid meeting with Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam officials. He stressed the need for regular system reviews, strong backup plans and quick response mechanisms to prevent any disruption.

The hydrogen plant in Jind, the largest in the country, has a storage capacity of 3,000 kilograms and will run round the clock. Officials highlighted that uninterrupted, high-quality power remains essential for smooth operations.

DHBVN assured the state government of stable supply, enhanced monitoring and rapid maintenance support. Northern Railway officials expressed satisfaction with the power quality. Senior officers, including DHBVN Managing Director Vikram Yadav, attended the meeting, reinforcing the government’s commitment to this landmark green transport initiative.

Indian Railways has announced special travel arrangements for devotees visiting Sri Fatehgarh Sahib during the Shaheedi Jor Mela. To manage the massive rush, 14 trains will temporarily halt at Sirhind railway station. These trains usually pass through without stopping.

Northern Railway took this decision after reviewing the expected surge in passengers. The Shaheedi Jor Mela attracts devotees from across the country every year. This year, officials expect over 50 lakh pilgrims between December 25 and December 27.

Northern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, said the move will ease travel and reduce congestion. Each of the identified trains will stop at Sirhind station for around two minutes. The halts will remain in place for three days during the religious event.

Railway authorities have also planned additional local passenger services on selected routes. These services aim to handle peak-hour crowds more efficiently. To ensure smooth last-mile connectivity, bus services have been arranged from Sirhind station to Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.

Officials have urged passengers to follow travel advisories and cooperate with railway staff. The temporary halts are expected to improve access, enhance safety, and provide relief to thousands of devotees attending one of Punjab’s most significant religious gatherings.

The centre will help passengers manage crowding during the festival season. It can hold up to 7,000 travellers, improving pre-boarding comfort and flow.

The facility is divided into three zones: a 2,860 sqm ticketing area, a 1,150 sqm post-ticketing zone, and a 1,218 sqm pre-ticketing section. This design reduces congestion and ensures smooth passenger movement at the station’s main entrance.

Northern Railway equipped the Kendra with 22 ticket counters, 25 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), seating for 200, and 18 HVLS fans for cooling.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Announces Kashmir-Delhi Daily Parcel Train to support farmers and traders in the Valley. The service, starting September 13, will run between Budgam in Kashmir and Adarsh Nagar in Delhi.

Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the move on X, stressing that the train will help apple farmers and improve trade opportunities. He added that two parcel vans have already started carrying apples from Budgam to Delhi. The initiative aims to cut travel time to around 23 hours, faster than road transport.

According to railway officials, the service will not only transport apples but also saffron, walnuts, carpets, pashmina shawls, and other Kashmiri handicrafts. Senior Commercial Divisional Manager Uchit Singhal said the first train will leave Delhi on September 13 and return from Budgam on September 15.

The project comes under the Joint Parcel Product-Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS) approved by the Railway Board in August. Northern Railway confirmed that the train will have one SLR coach and eight parcel vans. Bari Brahmana station will provide loading and unloading facilities for traders.

Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar explained that the service was planned due to heavy rains that disrupted road transport. He said the parcel train will give traders a reliable and economical alternative while boosting freight transport in the Jammu division.
