In Delhi, the judicial custody of Gaganpreet Kaur, accused in a BMW crash, was extended till September 27. The accident claimed the life of senior Finance Ministry officer Navjot Singh in Dhaula Kuan earlier this month. His wife sustained grievous injuries.

The 38-year-old accused appeared before Patiala House Court after completing her initial two-day custody. Judicial Magistrate Ankit Garg heard preliminary arguments regarding her bail plea, which has been scheduled for Saturday. The court will review arguments from both prosecution and defense before delivering its decision.

During proceedings, the prosecution alleged that the BMW was speeding and raised concerns over post-accident handling. Victims were transported to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar, allegedly linked to the accused’s relatives, rather than the nearest available hospital, raising questions about potential tampering with evidence. CCTV footage submitted by the Investigating Officer is being reviewed to establish the sequence of events leading to the crash.

Gaganpreet Kaur faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and reckless driving. The case has attracted widespread attention due to the victim’s high-profile status. The court’s decision on bail will determine whether she remains in judicial custody as the investigation continues.

The husband of the woman accused of driving the BMW that killed a senior finance ministry official said he informed his father-in-law that his wife was taking the victims to Nulife Hospital. The hospital is owned by one of her relatives, police sources revealed.

Navjot Singh (52), a deputy secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, died on Sunday (September 14, 2025) after a BMW crashed into his motorcycle while he was returning from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara with his wife, Sandeep Kaur. Singh died on the spot, while Sandeep Kaur suffered severe injuries.

Sandeep Kaur told police that she begged Gaganpreet Kaur and her husband, Parikshit, to take them to the nearest hospital. Instead, they drove the couple nearly 19 km away to Nulife Hospital. According to Parikshit, he did not know how the accident occurred. He said his wife told him she was taking the victims there while he called his father-in-law.

When asked why she avoided a closer hospital, Gaganpreet claimed she panicked and was familiar with Nulife Hospital from past visits during the COVID-19 pandemic. Police will verify Parikshit’s statements through call records.
