He reviewed the progress of the upcoming Google AI Data Center in Visakhapatnam. Lokesh also requested Google to set up a drone assembly unit in the state’s proposed Drone City. He expressed happiness as Google planned investments of 15 billion dollars in Visakhapatnam. Senior Google leaders, including Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian and Global Networking Vice President Bikash Koley, joined the discussions.

Sundar Pichai said Google was expanding cloud regions across India. He added that Google for Startups Accelerators continued to support Indian startups. Pichai stated that the 15-billion-dollar AI Data Center in Visakhapatnam would become the largest non-US FDI from Google. He also mentioned a new agreement with Foxconn in Chennai. Under this collaboration, Google drone wings will be manufactured in India. He assured Lokesh that Google would study the proposals and make a positive announcement soon.

Lokesh also met Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen. He requested the setup of an Adobe GCC Center in Andhra Pradesh. During his tour, he met Zoom President Shankaralingam and sought a development center in the state. He urged Intel CTO Shesha Krishnapura to consider an AI Research Center in Amaravati.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has unveiled a bold plan to scale artificial intelligence faster than ever. The initiative, called Abundant Intelligence, aims to build a “factory” producing a gigawatt of AI infrastructure every week. Altman admits the project will be highly challenging and require years to complete.

The announcement follows Nvidia’s $100 billion investment, which gives OpenAI access to roughly 10 gigawatts of AI data centers. This deal alone surpasses the GDP of some countries. Altman also launched Stargate, a $500 billion partnership with Oracle and SoftBank to build massive AI super-hubs in the U.S. The first site is under construction in Abilene, Texas, with five more locations planned, totaling nearly 7 gigawatts of capacity.

Experts have raised concerns about energy availability. Running such massive facilities requires enormous electricity, and the grid may not be ready. Brad Gastwirth of Circular Technology called energy the “silent bottleneck” for Silicon Valley’s AI projects. Producing a gigawatt each week is like powering a major city repeatedly, posing climate and infrastructure challenges.

Despite this, Altman remains optimistic. He sees the project as an opportunity to rethink infrastructure at a planetary scale. If successful, OpenAI will not only train larger AI models but also reshape how technology and energy intersect worldwide.

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has entered a six-year, $10 billion cloud computing agreement with Google. This marks Google’s second major cloud deal with a tech giant after OpenAI. Under the agreement, Meta will rely on Google Cloud’s infrastructure, including servers, storage, and networking, to support its AI-driven initiatives.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently confirmed that the company plans to invest significantly in AI. He revealed that Meta would spend “hundreds of billions of dollars” on building AI data centers. In July, Meta raised its capital expenditure forecast for the year to $66-$72 billion, marking an increase of $2 billion. To ease financial strain, Meta is also looking to sell approximately $2 billion worth of data center assets.

Meanwhile, OpenAI, which is backed by Microsoft, has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to meet its growing computing needs. Google Cloud has reported impressive growth, with a nearly 32% increase in revenue in the second quarter, exceeding market expectations. CEO Sundar Pichai attributed this growth to the platform’s openness and a strong supply of Nvidia GPUs and custom TPUs.
