In Andhra Pradesh’s Tadepalligudem market, onion farmers from the erstwhile Kadapa district are distressed over the steep fall in onion prices. They said they were forced to sell their produce at just ₹5–₹10 per kilogram, which barely covers even transportation costs. In contrast, onions arriving from Maharashtra fetched higher rates between ₹12 and ₹18 per kilogram, leaving local farmers disappointed and helpless.

The farmers lamented that despite good yield, they are unable to get a fair price for their hard work. Earlier, the state government had intervened and purchased onions at ₹1,200 per quintal to support struggling farmers.

However, with prices crashing again, cultivators are urging authorities to announce a stable support price to prevent further losses and to protect the livelihoods of thousands of small and marginal farmers dependent on onion cultivation.

In Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) supporters are actively urging former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to attend Assembly sessions and speak on public issues. On social media, many fans are tweeting that even if Jagan faces insults, criticism, or interruptions like the microphone being cut off, his strong stand on people’s problems will generate sympathy among the public.

They believe this strategy will help him connect with citizens more effectively at a time when the state is grappling with several pressing issues. Concerns highlighted by supporters include the crash in prices of essential commodities such as urea, onions, and tomatoes, which has left farmers distressed.

They want Jagan to use the Assembly platform to debate these matters and exert pressure on the government to take corrective measures. His presence in the Assembly, they argue, will reaffirm his commitment to public welfare.

Telangana farmers are struggling as onion prices have collapsed sharply in the markets. Just weeks ago, onions were selling at high rates, troubling consumers. Now, the sudden price fall is making farmers cry.

In Kurnool district’s Gonegandla mandal, many farmers cultivated onions with hope of good profits. They invested nearly ₹70,000 per acre, expecting a yield of about 25 quintals. But when they took their produce to the market, buyers offered only around ₹500 per quintal. Farmers say even after selling the full crop, they cannot recover even ₹20,000 per acre.

Adding to their woes, onions spoil quickly and require regular grading. Traders buy only after proper sorting, which demands extra labor charges. Without sales, farmers are forced to throw away 5–10 quintals daily due to rotting. They also spend more money on daily expenses while waiting at the markets for buyers.

For the past few days, there have been no major purchases. Farmers like Srinivasulu, Gopal, and Sunkanna expressed deep distress over mounting debts. They urged the state government to immediately step in, ensure fair prices, and start onion procurement. Without support, they fear they will sink deeper into financial crisis.
