According to Honorary Director Prof. Jyoti Rattan, admissions to the IAS Preliminary Batch 2026 will be based on an entrance test scheduled for December 19.

Panjab University in Chandigarh remained closed today after the administration declared a holiday and cancelled all scheduled examinations in response to rising tension on campus. The decision came ahead of a shutdown call issued by members of the Panjab University Bachao Morcha, who have been demanding clarity on the pending Senate election dates.

Security forces were deployed across the campus last night after a series of protests created unrest. Though the situation is currently calm, authorities describe it as a “tense peace,” with students and staff waiting for further developments.

The Panjab University Bachao Morcha is scheduled to meet later this afternoon to finalize its next course of action. Discussions are expected to include the proposal to gherao the BJP’s state office as well as BJP district offices across Punjab. A formal announcement is likely to be made during a press conference at 5 PM today.

Following the meeting, student groups may also declare the date for the planned gherao of the BJP office. Today’s meeting was triggered by the recent protest and follows earlier discussions held with various student and staff organizations. The administration has urged all groups to maintain peace while negotiations continue.

Tensions at Panjab University, Chandigarh, have escalated sharply as student organisations declared a complete boycott of all upcoming examinations, intensifying their protest over delays in announcing the Senate election schedule. The agitation gained momentum amid rising frustration over the university’s prolonged silence on the matter, with student leaders set to address the media later in the day to reveal their next steps.

Student groups have categorically stated that no academic or administrative activity will resume until the university formally releases the Senate election timetable. Their rigid stand persisted even after the Punjab and Haryana High Court urged students to return to classes for at least seven days before the court could intervene further.

According to the university’s academic calendar, departmental exams are scheduled to begin around November 18, 2025, with several date sheets already published. However, campus tensions intensified as discussions on Senate elections resurfaced, prompting mass mobilisation by student unions. A joint meeting of various student organisations has been scheduled for November 20 to chart a unified course of action.

The conflict traces back to the Central Government’s October 28 notification dissolving the University Senate and Syndicate—a move that triggered widespread outrage before being withdrawn. Despite verbal assurances from the administration, student bodies continue to demand a written, time-bound commitment to conducting Senate elections, keeping the standoff unresolved.
