During his visit to India, Murphy emphasized the importance of India for New Jersey’s economy. He acknowledged Russia’s role in the Ukraine war and said Moscow must be pressured. At the same time, he cautioned against damaging relations with India, calling it one of the world’s most important partnerships.

Murphy noted that pushback on tariffs in the US was not strictly partisan. He described the mood as one where “cooler heads” may prevail.

The Governor also raised concerns about student visas. He highlighted that more than 2,000 Indian students are waiting for approvals. He said the process needs improvement and urged reforms to reduce delays.

Murphy added that new administrations often “over-correct” policies but later balance their approach. He expressed hope that the visa process and trade issues would be resolved over time. His visit to India underlined the growing significance of state-level diplomacy in strengthening bilateral ties.
