Union Minister Raksha Nikhil Khadse on Tuesday said the Centre is collecting detailed data on flood damage in Punjab. She assured that maximum compensation will be given to farmers and other affected people.

The minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked Union ministers to visit flood-hit regions. They were directed to meet families, listen to their concerns, and assess the ground situation.

Khadse visited Patiala district, mainly the Ghanaur Assembly segment. She was accompanied by BJP leader and former Patiala MP Preneet Kaur.

She met families in Jand Mangoli, Untsar, Kami Khurd, and Chamaru villages. Many residents described heavy crop losses and damage to homes caused by the overflowing Ghaggar river.

Taking note of their difficulties, Khadse instructed the SDM to conduct a comprehensive survey. She said compensation should reach victims directly and without delay. Relief must be transparent and fair.

Her visit was part of a broader exercise launched after the Prime Minister’s recent tour of Punjab. Several Union ministers have been deployed to inspect flood-hit districts and coordinate with state authorities.

Farmers expressed hope that the survey will ensure faster relief. They also demanded long-term measures to prevent recurring flood damage.

Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “playing politics” over flood relief. In a letter, Warring urged the Prime Minister to announce a financial package of at least Rs 25,000 crore for Punjab instead of the Rs 1,600 crore package declared during his state visit. He argued that such a meagre allocation would only lead to the victimisation of Punjabis.

Warring alleged that the AAP government had already diverted the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for its daily expenses, leaving Punjab financially drained. He said the Centre was well aware of this crisis yet still chose to release a small relief amount.

He further claimed that Prime Minister Modi aimed to “expose” AAP’s financial mismanagement, but in doing so, ended up hurting the people of Punjab. Warring insisted that the real victims were ordinary citizens who urgently needed relief and rehabilitation.

The Congress leader demanded that the Centre rise above politics and extend adequate support to Punjab. He said only a substantial relief package could ensure proper rehabilitation for flood-affected families and restoration of infrastructure.

The focus key phrase Punjab flood relief package dominated the discussions, with AAP leaders calling the grant of Rs 1,600 crore inadequate. They said the Punjab flood relief package falls far short of the Rs 20,000 crore demand placed before the Centre.

AAP president Aman Arora said the losses were in thousands of crores, making the grant “a drop in the ocean.” The Punjab Government estimated damages of Rs 13,800 crore to schools, hospitals, power networks, bridges, and other infrastructure. A presentation on these damages was made to the PM, but ministers claimed their pleas for a larger Punjab flood relief package were ignored.

With Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann hospitalised, four state ministers presented Punjab’s case. They also reminded Modi about the Rs 60,000 crore pending dues, including GST and rural development funds. Revenue Minister Hardeep Mundian said the PM’s late visit offered “a band-aid, not a healing touch.” Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Khudian added that Punjab has always stood by the nation and now expected real support in return.

Punjab floods relief package has become the central demand as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the state today to review the widespread damage caused by one of the worst disasters in decades. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has formally asked the Centre to sanction a ₹20,000 crore package to rebuild lives and infrastructure.

The devastating floods have already claimed 51 lives, while crops spread across 1.84 lakh hectares of farmland have been destroyed. Thousands of homes, schools, and hospitals are damaged, leaving rural families in distress. The AAP government said the proposed relief package would cover immediate compensation for victims’ families, financial support for farmers, rehabilitation of displaced residents, and the reconstruction of key public infrastructure.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to brief PM Modi during his field visit. According to officials, the Prime Minister will inspect flood-affected villages, interact with locals, and assess the state’s relief operations before announcing any central assistance.

Beyond short-term measures, Punjab has also sought help for long-term flood control projects. These include strengthening embankments, upgrading drainage systems, and setting up early warning mechanisms. Experts believe that without structural reforms, such disasters will continue to hit Punjab’s agrarian economy hard.

Opposition leaders, meanwhile, are closely watching the Centre’s response, noting that the speed and size of the relief package will influence public opinion. Human rights groups have also urged both state and central governments to ensure timely delivery of aid, transparency in fund usage, and special provisions for vulnerable groups such as landless farmers and daily wage earners.

The outcome of PM Modi’s visit is expected to set the tone for Punjab’s recovery. For now, the spotlight remains on whether the Centre will meet the demand for a ₹20,000 crore Punjab floods relief package.

The floods left huge deposits of sand, making it difficult for farmers to prepare for the next rabi crop.

Sisodia said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has agreed to bring a policy on this issue. Mann, who is in a Mohali hospital, will allow farmers to extract sand without delay. “If sand remains in the fields, crops will not grow,” Sisodia said.

He added that farmers will also be free to sell the sand. This will give them an extra source of income while recovering from crop losses.

Sisodia also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release the “pending” ₹60,000 crore relief fund. He said Punjab needs urgent financial support. Modi is visiting the flood-hit state on September 9, and Sisodia hopes the Centre will announce strong measures for the people.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has called an emergency meeting in Chandigarh to address the Punjab floods. The meeting will include district presidents and assembly in-charges to review damage and plan relief measures. Senior leader Daljit Singh Cheema said the party will gather feedback and intensify relief efforts.

Earlier, Badal demanded a ₹20,000 crore flood relief package and a full farm loan waiver for farmers and labourers. He stressed that Punjab’s farmers, who powered India’s Green Revolution, deserve national support. He also announced plans to desilt farmland using machinery and volunteers, stating he was ready to face action for protecting farmers’ rights.

Badal personally visited flood-hit areas in Nakodar, Phillaur, and Sahnewal, providing cash aid and diesel for relief operations. He distributed over ₹25 lakh and 40,000 litres of diesel to strengthen bundhs and support earth-moving work. Local farmers complained that the AAP government had failed to provide timely help. SAD leaders joined him during these visits.

This emergency meeting comes a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Punjab.

The Punjab Government has announced a new decision to help flood-hit farmers. Farmers will now be allowed to sell sand deposited in their fields after the recent floods. The Cabinet will approve changes in the state’s mining policy in a meeting on Monday.

AAP leader and Punjab affairs in-charge Manish Sisodia shared this update in a press conference. The move comes as lakhs of acres have become uncultivable due to heavy deposits of sand and silt brought by the Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej rivers. Farmers already struggling with huge losses will get some financial relief from selling the sand.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who is recovering from a bacterial infection in a Mohali hospital, will attend the Cabinet meeting via video call. Sisodia said the CM is concerned about the massive damage to crops like paddy, cotton, maize, and sugarcane across 4.3 lakh acres.

Farmers from Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur told Sisodia that selling the sand is the only way to recover losses. The CM has agreed to make policy changes quickly so that farmers can extract and sell sand from their fields without delay.
