The procurement drive starts with upgraded facilities at mandis, where farmers will receive food, drinking water and clean toilets. Officials instructed mill owners to send vehicles on time so that farmers do not face delays. They also plan to monitor weighing and cleaning activities closely to avoid disputes.

Cooperation Department Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta said the government expects nearly 15 lakh tonnes more paddy compared to last year. Teams will supervise the entire process and fix issues as soon as mandis open each day.

He noted that rainfall from a low-pressure system may cause small losses, but the administration already prepared measures to manage such situations. The minister also reminded mill owners to avoid delays and follow guidelines strictly.

Samanta added that the government does not support katni-chatni practices. However, if farmers and mill owners make private arrangements, the department cannot intervene.

With tighter monitoring and expanded targets, Odisha aims for a smooth and farmer-friendly procurement season.
