Prime Minister Modi arrived early at the memorial and laid a wreath at Gandhi’s samadhi. Soon after, President Murmu also offered flowers and bowed in respect. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan joined the ceremony, along with several Union Ministers.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior Cabinet members paid homage and recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence, and sacrifice. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also visited Raj Ghat and offered floral tributes to mark Gandhi’s punyatithi.

During the solemn ceremony, dignitaries observed two minutes of silence in Gandhi’s memory. The moment reflected the nation’s collective respect for his legacy and values.

Later, an all-faith prayer meeting took place at the memorial. Devotional hymns dear to Gandhi, including “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,” echoed through the premises, reinforcing his message of unity and harmony.

Mahatma Gandhi led India’s freedom struggle through non-violent resistance and mass movements. Nathuram Godse assassinated him on January 30, 1948, in Delhi. Even decades later, Gandhi’s teachings continue to inspire India and the world.
