Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced plans to revive the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Pranahita–Chevella Sujala Sravanthi Project with a cost-efficient strategy. He said the government aims to cut costs by 10–12 percent, saving nearly ₹1,600 crore through a revised alignment via the Sundilla Link.

During a review meeting at the Secretariat on Monday, the Minister said the new plan would reduce land acquisition and avoid coal-bearing zones that previously delayed the project. He emphasized that the government seeks to make the project technically strong, financially viable, and environmentally responsible.

Uttam Kumar Reddy explained that the Sundilla Link is a practical and eco-friendly solution. It bypasses risky coal seams and uses existing infrastructure effectively to supply water to drought-hit regions of Telangana.

Earlier, water was drawn from the Pranahita River to the Yellampalli Barrage through a 71-kilometer canal. The revised route proposes a direct connection between Tummidihatti and Sundilla Barrages, shortening canals and tunnels while reducing costs and easing environmental approvals.
