Full News Copy (Under 200 Words):
Farmers from Firozpur and several other districts of Punjab have announced a march toward the Shambhu border to protest against the electricity bill. Addressing the gathering, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee leader Sarwan Singh Pandher alleged that the Punjab government is working to crush their movement instead of supporting them.

Pandher claimed the state government has joined hands with the central government and is refusing to back the demand to scrap the electricity bill. He said this clearly shows that both governments are aligned against farmers’ interests.

Calling for unity, Pandher appealed to all Punjabis to stand with the farmers in their fight for the cancellation of the electricity bill. He emphasized that only a united struggle can force the government to take action in favour of the farming community.

Chouhan noted that stubble burning may clear fields quickly, but it harms insects, soil health, and the environment. He highlighted an 83% drop in stubble-burning incidents in Punjab this year and encouraged farmers nationwide to follow the Ransih Kalan model.

The Minister explained how farmers in the village mix stubble into the soil and use direct seeding. They save water, diesel and fertiliser, while improving soil carbon and crop productivity. He shared examples of farmers who now use fewer bags of DAP and urea due to better soil nutrition.

Chouhan also praised the village for adopting rainwater harvesting, plastic management, and an active anti-drug campaign. He said that Ransih Kalan offers valuable lessons for farmers across India.

The Minister assured farmers that the government will continue procurement at MSP and will also buy lentil, pigeon pea, black gram and chickpea, ensuring full value for their hard work.

The Chouhan visit Punjab tour aims to highlight sustainable agriculture, flood recovery, and MNREGA support.

Chouhan will start his day at Ransingh Kalan village in Moga. Farmers here follow eco-friendly methods and have stopped stubble burning for six years. They now use scientific residue management, which improves soil health and reduces chemical fertilisers by nearly 30%. The Minister plans to speak directly with farmers to understand how these methods boosted productivity.

He will then move to Udham Singh Nagar in Jalandhar to meet MNREGA workers. Chouhan recently announced an increase in MNREGA workdays in Punjab from 100 to 150 to support labourers affected by floods.

Later, he will hold a review meeting with district officials in Jalandhar to assess rural infrastructure and livelihood schemes. The visit will conclude with an interaction with farmers at the ICAR-Central Potato Research Centre, where discussions will focus on research and new technologies.

The Chouhan visit Punjab programme reflects the Centre’s push toward sustainable farming and stronger rural support.

Farmers Protest in Chandigarh Over Compensation as thousands of farmers assembled at Sector 43 Dussehra Ground today. The gathering, led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, drew large crowds from several districts of Punjab. Farmers expressed anger over the proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 and demanded immediate compensation for crops destroyed in recent floods. The issue of relief for affected farmers remained the central theme of the protest.

The protest began early in the morning as groups of farmers reached Chandigarh in tractor-trolleys, jeeps, and buses. Leaders said the government must understand the severity of crop losses and release funds without delay. They argued that the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 threatens the security of free or subsidised power and may place additional financial burdens on rural households.

Meanwhile, the administration increased security across the city. Police teams monitored all entry points to ensure smooth movement and prevent any disruption. Officers also maintained a tight vigil around the protest site.

Farmer leaders announced that the agitation will continue until their demands receive a firm response. They urged the government to start talks at the earliest and assure farmers that their livelihoods will be protected.

Badal said that instead of playing a blame game, the government should focus on compensation. He flagged off 250 tractor-trailers of maize silage from Dera Baba Nanak and also visited flood-hit villages in Sri Hargobindpur.

To aid relief work, SAD sent hundreds of fogging machines and dispatched 25 more silage trucks from Sri Muktsar Sahib for Patti and Khadoor Sahib constituencies. Badal assured Gurdaspur DC Dalwinderjit Singh of full support from his party.

He accused the AAP government of negligence, blaming the collapse of Madhopur barrage gates and release of water from Ranjit Sagar Dam for destroying crops across lakhs of acres. According to SAD, CM Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal are misusing Punjab’s resources while farmers wait for flood relief.

During his visit to Amritsar and Gurdaspur on September 15, Gandhi saw the severe flood damage firsthand. Millions of homes were destroyed. Crops on over 4 lakh acres were ruined, and many animals were swept away. Posting a video on X (formerly Twitter), he said Punjab suffered losses worth Rs 20,000 crore due to the floods.

Gandhi praised the courage of Punjab’s people. He said, “I am confident they will rise again with the right support.” Earlier, he wrote to PM Modi asking for urgent aid.
The floods affected over 2,300 villages in all 23 districts. They destroyed standing crops on 4.81 lakh acres and claimed 57 lives. Speaking at Dhussi Bundh in Phillaur, he said his party will lay concrete bundhs and embankments in flood-prone areas once it comes to power in 2027. Badal criticized both Congress and AAP for failing to maintain bundhs, which worsened the flood situation.

Farmers shared their struggles since the 2023 floods. Roads remain damaged, and bundhs were left weak. Badal promised immediate relief, including 4,000 litres of diesel, tractors, JCB machines, and funds for village committees. He also pledged earthworks on roads and clearing sand from farms.

In addition, SAD will send maize silage for livestock and distribute certified wheat seeds for one lakh acres, with SGPC supporting another lakh acres. Badal urged the Punjab government to release crop compensation quickly and provide free DAP fertiliser to farmers. He emphasized that strong Punjab flood control measures are essential to protect farmers and their land from future disasters.

The Congress party has slammed the Punjab government’s decision to give Rs 20,000 per acre as flood relief, calling it too little compared to farmers’ actual losses. Leaders said the AAP government ignored input costs and livestock deaths that added to the crisis.

State Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said farmers have suffered long-term damage as both crops and soil were destroyed. He warned that without quick payments, the relief could become “another hoax.” He added that losses stand at about Rs 50,000 per acre, and damp soil will prevent wheat sowing for months. Farmers will also need more fertilisers to restore productivity.

Warring further accused the government of ignoring livestock losses worth lakhs. Opposition leader Partap Singh Bajwa rejected the AAP claim of granting the “highest-ever” relief, calling it false.

AICC Secretary Pargat Singh described the announced aid as “a drop in the ocean.” He demanded Rs 50,000 per acre for crops, Rs 1 lakh per acre for sugarcane, and a three-month waiver of VAT on diesel. He also criticised the Rs 4 lakh relief for families of flood victims as inadequate.

In it, he urged the Centre to announce an urgent financial relief package for Punjab.

Kang said record rainfall and flooding from the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers had devastated the state. He highlighted the heavy loss of lives, property, and crops. The scale of destruction, he added, is beyond measure and demands quick support.

He appealed to the Prime Minister to act with compassion and keep politics aside. Kang warned that strained ties between the AAP government in Punjab and the Union Government must not affect common people.

“As a concerned citizen, I request you to extend help with an open heart. Punjab now needs maximum assistance, without discrimination or delay,” Kang wrote.

Calling Punjab the land of Gurus, saints, patriots, and warriors, he asked the Centre to stand with the state in this crisis. He urged for immediate financial aid and rehabilitation measures to rebuild lives and livelihoods.

AAP leader Manish Sisodia announced that Punjab farmers will soon get permission to remove sand from their fields. The floods left huge deposits of sand, making it difficult for farmers to prepare for the next rabi crop.

Sisodia said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has agreed to bring a policy on this issue. Mann, who is in a Mohali hospital, will allow farmers to extract sand without delay. “If sand remains in the fields, crops will not grow,” Sisodia said.

He added that farmers will also be free to sell the sand. This will give them an extra source of income while recovering from crop losses.

Sisodia also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release the “pending” ₹60,000 crore relief fund. He said Punjab needs urgent financial support. Modi is visiting the flood-hit state on September 9, and Sisodia hopes the Centre will announce strong measures for the people.
