Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday assured the people that every penny of Rangla Punjab Fund will be used only for flood relief and rehabilitation. He said the fund will provide quick assistance to families whose homes, crops, and livelihoods were destroyed by floods.

Explaining the move in the Punjab Assembly, Mann said the government faced several hurdles with the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. CSR donations are not allowed in it, and Members of Parliament can give only up to ₹20 lakh. “These limits make it hard to mobilize large-scale resources,” Mann said. To fix this problem, the government launched the Rangla Punjab Fund.

The response has been encouraging. Citizens, industries, and social organisations have already begun contributing. Mann promised to maintain complete transparency. “We will release details of funding daily,” he said while responding to Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa’s question on RTI. He added that the Chief Minister will chair the fund, and contributions will come through cheques and other secure methods.

Mann also addressed the opposition’s criticism. He said some parties are trying to create doubts about the new fund but the people of Punjab know its importance. He added that the government’s focus is only on the victims, not on politics.

The Chief Minister also launched a strong attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He accused the PM of ignoring Punjab’s suffering while making frequent foreign trips. “The Centre has not shown seriousness in supporting flood relief,” Mann said. He called this attitude an insult to citizens who expect real help in tough times.

Mann concluded by repeating his promise. The Rangla Punjab Fund will remain dedicated to one mission—helping every flood-hit family rebuild their life with dignity and speed. He urged Punjabis everywhere to join this collective effort.

Mann said the Assembly’s decisions would bring real relief and strengthen recovery efforts.

Union Minister Raksha Nikhil Khadse on Tuesday said the Centre is collecting detailed data on flood damage in Punjab. She assured that maximum compensation will be given to farmers and other affected people.

The minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked Union ministers to visit flood-hit regions. They were directed to meet families, listen to their concerns, and assess the ground situation.

Khadse visited Patiala district, mainly the Ghanaur Assembly segment. She was accompanied by BJP leader and former Patiala MP Preneet Kaur.

She met families in Jand Mangoli, Untsar, Kami Khurd, and Chamaru villages. Many residents described heavy crop losses and damage to homes caused by the overflowing Ghaggar river.

Taking note of their difficulties, Khadse instructed the SDM to conduct a comprehensive survey. She said compensation should reach victims directly and without delay. Relief must be transparent and fair.

Her visit was part of a broader exercise launched after the Prime Minister’s recent tour of Punjab. Several Union ministers have been deployed to inspect flood-hit districts and coordinate with state authorities.

Farmers expressed hope that the survey will ensure faster relief. They also demanded long-term measures to prevent recurring flood damage.

Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “playing politics” over flood relief. In a letter, Warring urged the Prime Minister to announce a financial package of at least Rs 25,000 crore for Punjab instead of the Rs 1,600 crore package declared during his state visit. He argued that such a meagre allocation would only lead to the victimisation of Punjabis.

Warring alleged that the AAP government had already diverted the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for its daily expenses, leaving Punjab financially drained. He said the Centre was well aware of this crisis yet still chose to release a small relief amount.

He further claimed that Prime Minister Modi aimed to “expose” AAP’s financial mismanagement, but in doing so, ended up hurting the people of Punjab. Warring insisted that the real victims were ordinary citizens who urgently needed relief and rehabilitation.

The Congress leader demanded that the Centre rise above politics and extend adequate support to Punjab. He said only a substantial relief package could ensure proper rehabilitation for flood-affected families and restoration of infrastructure.

Kang said record rainfall and flooding from the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers had devastated the state. He highlighted the heavy loss of lives, property, and crops. The scale of destruction, he added, is beyond measure and demands quick support.

He appealed to the Prime Minister to act with compassion and keep politics aside. Kang warned that strained ties between the AAP government in Punjab and the Union Government must not affect common people.

“As a concerned citizen, I request you to extend help with an open heart. Punjab now needs maximum assistance, without discrimination or delay,” Kang wrote.

Calling Punjab the land of Gurus, saints, patriots, and warriors, he asked the Centre to stand with the state in this crisis. He urged for immediate financial aid and rehabilitation measures to rebuild lives and livelihoods.

The fundraising drive saw strong support from Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto.

On Thursday, listeners of Red FM Vancouver and Calgary pledged over $1.5 million. Vancouver alone contributed $1 million, while Calgary raised $460,000. The next day, Red FM Toronto added nearly $500,000, taking the total to $2 million.

All donations will go to Sikhi Awareness Foundation (SAF) International, a Surrey-based non-profit. SAF will run a three-phase relief plan: emergency supplies, rehabilitation, and long-term rebuilding for affected families.

Red FM president Kulwinder Sanghera said the community’s support has been outstanding over the past 19 years of Radiothons. He added that the South Asian community always steps up during crises.

This quick and united effort shows the strong ties between Canadian South Asians and their roots in Punjab. The raised funds will provide vital relief for thousands suffering due to the floods.
