Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann carried out surprise inspections of three under-construction roads in Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib on Thursday. He found serious flaws on the Ritkheri link road in Patiala. The construction quality disappointed him, and he immediately ordered officials to issue a show-cause notice to the contractor. He also froze all pending payments and asked teams to collect samples for lab testing.

Mann said this inspection drive forms part of a statewide campaign to ensure high-quality road construction. He stressed that every project uses public money, so every road must meet strict standards. He inspected the Patiala–Sirhind road and the Rudki–Riunna Plain road in Fatehgarh Sahib as well, and sent their samples for testing.

The CM said the state aims to build 44,920 km of roads at a cost of ₹16,209 crore, the largest road project in Punjab’s history. All new roads come with a five-year mandatory maintenance clause and world-class safety markings.

He noted that floods damaged many roads, so the government accelerated rural link projects worth ₹4,092 crore. Mann urged citizens to monitor construction in their areas and report irregularities. He warned that his flying squads watch projects closely and have already cancelled several faulty contracts.

Punjab faces a growing food safety crisis as nearly half of the milk and dairy products tested in the last three years failed quality checks. An FSSAI report shows that of 1,915 samples collected across the state, 902 were found adulterated. The highest failure rate was recorded in paneer, where chemicals, starch and sucrose were frequently detected. In 2024–25 alone, 531 samples were tested, and 255 contained adulterants.

Authorities reported that substandard paneer and dairy products are also entering Punjab from neighbouring states, increasing the health risks for consumers. Haryana and Uttar Pradesh recorded similar patterns, with hundreds of unsafe samples detected. Punjab’s health department recently seized large consignments of fake paneer in Rajpura and Patiala during routine checks. Mobile food-testing vans continue to conduct on-the-spot inspections, and officials have urged citizens to get suspicious food items tested to prevent serious health hazards.

The impact was so severe that Malkit fell through the flyover gap and died on the spot, while the accused driver abandoned the container and fled.

Hardeep, who was driving the tractor-trolley toward Focal Point, said the collision happened suddenly from behind, leaving them no time to react. Despite his injuries, he gathered the courage to locate his father and rushed him to CMC Hospital with public help, but doctors declared him dead.

Police from Division No. 7 reached the spot, cleared traffic, and seized the container. Officials confirmed that Malkit Singh was the sole breadwinner of the family. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

The Punjab Waqf Board has received relief from the Waqf Tribunal, with the deadline for registering properties on the UMMID portal extended by two months. Under the supervision of Chairman Mohammad Owais and CEO Shaukat Ahmed Pare, the Board is working to register its properties on the portal after three levels of verification.

Earlier, the Ministry of Minority Affairs had directed all state Waqf Boards to register 24,401 properties on the UMMID portal by 5 December 2025. Several petitions were filed in the Supreme Court seeking an extension of the deadline. However, during the hearing on 3 December, the Supreme Court rejected these petitions, stating that Boards could approach their respective state Waqf Tribunals for deadline extensions.

Following this option, Punjab Waqf Board filed petitions under Section 3B of the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The Faridkot and Jalandhar tribunals granted an additional two months, while the Ropar tribunal extended the deadline to 18 December. Progress reports will be reviewed on 18 December, and the Firozpur and Patiala tribunals are yet to hold hearings. Based on progress, Waqf Tribunals can grant a maximum of six more months for completing the registration.

A massive fire broke out on Saturday morning at an animal feed manufacturing factory located on Bahadurke Road in Ludhiana. The blaze erupted inside the premises of Sant Sahib Oil Mills and quickly intensified within minutes. Workers inside the unit noticed thick smoke and a strong burning smell coming from the raw material section. By the time they reached the spot, the fire had already spread rapidly. The workers immediately rushed outside to save themselves and alerted the fire brigade.

Two fire brigade vehicles reached the location, and after nearly two hours of continuous effort, the fire was finally brought under control. The flames spread so fast that not only the raw materials but also the finished feed products were engulfed. Goods and machinery worth lakhs are suspected to have been destroyed, though the factory owner has not yet provided an official estimate of the loss.

The exact cause of the fire is still unknown, but initial suspicion points towards a short circuit. Thick black smoke rising from the factory spread across the surrounding area, creating panic among residents. Police and fire department teams are investigating the incident.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Badal and Captain Amarinder Singh families, alleging that the liquor, transport, land and mining mafia in the state were the direct outcome of their governments. Speaking at a press conference in Chandigarh, Cheema also criticised the Shiromani Akali Dal, Congress and BJP.

Responding to Captain Amarinder Singh’s suggestion that the SAD-BJP alliance should reunite, Cheema said such politics will no longer work in Punjab. He claimed that for decades, both families held political control and pursued self-interest, causing heavy losses to Punjabis. He also alleged that incidents of sacrilege occurred during their regimes.

Cheema said the AAP government has brought transparency in government jobs and is focused on Punjab’s progress. Punjabis, he asserted, now understand the “reality” of both families and will not support them for the next 20–25 years.

Targeting separatist elements, Cheema said some groups dislike Punjab’s growth and had even encouraged gangster culture earlier. He warned that the AAP government will not spare anyone trying to disturb the state’s peace.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will embark on a 10-day official visit to Japan from 1 December, adopting a unique strategy to attract foreign investment. Instead of hosting traditional investor summits in India, the state government will directly meet business leaders in Japan—the world’s third-largest economy.

Mann will visit Tokyo and Sapporo, where meetings with 25 major Japanese companies are scheduled. The Industries Minister and Chief Secretary will accompany him, reflecting the importance of the mission. Experts believe Japan’s advanced technology, organised work culture, and long-term investment outlook can significantly boost Punjab’s industrial growth, especially in sectors like electronics, automobiles, and high-end manufacturing.

The state has prepared special proposals offering easy land allotment, tax benefits, and a single-window system. Punjab’s proximity to Delhi and strong connectivity are being highlighted as major advantages.

Economists view this as a bold, proactive move to strengthen Punjab’s economy and bring global partnerships that can create new jobs and skill opportunities for youth. The visit is expected to position Punjab as a key industrial hub in North India.
